<section id="H481B6F4A49AB49C59ED289C55762DC73" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Securing Aircraft Cockpits Against Lasers Act of 2005</short-title></quote>.</text></section> 
<section id="HE6A8F35ACF524D15004CE91D000358B8"><enum>2.</enum><header>Prohibition against aiming a laser pointer at an aircraft</header> 
<subsection id="HC0E2CAA961144DB100C54787C40CF7B"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Offense</header><text><external-xref legal-doc="usc-chapter" parsable-cite="usc-chapter/18/2">Chapter 2</external-xref> of title 18, United States Code, is amended by adding at the end the following:</text>

<section id="H2DE9005F91024F59B5CE58A19B9BD2C4"><enum>39.</enum><header>Aiming a laser pointer at an aircraft</header> 
<subsection id="H1D761B2A4AB049B588F4769000F86C51"><enum>(a)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Whoever knowingly aims the beam of a laser pointer at an aircraft in the special aircraft jurisdiction of the United States, or at the flight path of such an aircraft, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than 5 years, or both.</text></subsection> 
<subsection id="H1450B13B8EA64562A71F082C286F0031"><enum>(b)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">As used in this section, the term <quote>laser pointer</quote> means any device designed or used to amplify electromagnetic radiation by stimulated emission that emits a beam designed to be used by the operator as a pointer or highlighter to indicate, mark, or identify a specific position, place, item, or object.</text></subsection></section><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></subsection> 
<subsection id="H16B5EC817B864A0D9D467E745F663BA2"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Amendment to table of sections</header><text>The table of sections at the beginning of <external-xref legal-doc="usc-chapter" parsable-cite="usc-chapter/18/2">chapter 2</external-xref> of title 18, United States Code, is amended by adding at the end the following new item:</text>
