<official-title display="yes">Recognizing the contributions of Jibreel Khazan (Ezell Blair, Jr.), David Richmond, Joseph McNeil, and Franklin McCain, the <quote>Greensboro Four</quote>, to the civil rights movement.</official-title> 
</form><preamble> 
<whereas><text>Whereas on February 1, 1960, Jibreel Khazan (Ezell Blair, Jr.), David Richmond, Joseph McNeil, and Franklin McCain, four African-American freshman students at North Carolina Agricultural &amp; Technical State University, walked into the F.W. Woolworth store in downtown Greensboro, North Carolina, and sat at the <quote>whites only</quote> lunch counter, thereafter becoming known as the <quote>Greensboro Four</quote>;</text></whereas> 
<whereas><text>Whereas the <quote>Greensboro Four</quote> were refused service but continued to sit at the lunch counter in nonviolent protest;</text></whereas> 
<whereas><text>Whereas the sit-in by the <quote>Greensboro Four</quote> was an act of courage and conscience, and inspired sit-ins across North Carolina and the southern United States to protest racial segregation in public accommodations and in other areas of life;</text></whereas> 
<whereas><text>Whereas the courageous protest of the <quote>Greensboro Four</quote> and all of the sit-in demonstrations made a critical contribution to the civil rights movement, leading to the enactment of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the integration of public accommodations; and</text></whereas> 
<whereas><text>Whereas the civil rights movement made our nation more just and decent, and the courage and conscience of the <quote>Greensboro Four</quote> should inspire all Americans to act against injustice: Now, therefore, be it</text></whereas></preamble>

<paragraph id="H826BED1856E0459789A98B7DAD7920E1"><enum>(1)</enum><text>applauds the valor and courageous efforts of Jibreel Khazan (Ezell Blair, Jr.), David Richmond, Joseph McNeil, and Franklin McCain, known as the <quote>Greensboro Four</quote>; and</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="H8E01FB42367C40FF86FD99F1EA216267"><enum>(2)</enum><text> encourages all Americans to remember the contributions they made to the civil rights movement and to conduct appropriate ceremonies, activities, and programs to commemorate the sit-in of the <quote>Greensboro Four</quote>.</text></paragraph></section>
