		<official-title>To amend chapter 25 of title 18, United States Code, to

		  create a general provision similar to provisions found in chapter 47 of such

		  title, to provide for criminal penalties for the act of forging Federal

		  documents.</official-title>

			 documents</header>

			<subsection id="idA1E360C96BE7476DB3E2ECC7A559234D"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In

			 general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Chapter 25 of title

			 18, United States Code, is amended by adding at the end the following:</text>

				<quoted-block act-name="" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id033A65405F354B4DB24429B81F6602AF" style="USC">

					<section id="idEC23638A16D9498A997C5FEA1840CD41"><enum>515.</enum><header>Federal

				records, documents, and writings, generally</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Any person who—</text>

						<paragraph id="id2211AD43200343C1BE078410B5B063CE"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">falsely makes, alters, forges, or

				counterfeits any Federal record, Federal document, Federal writing, or record,

				document, or writing characterizing, or purporting to characterize, official

				Federal activity, service, contract, obligation, duty, property, or

				chose;</text>

						</paragraph><paragraph id="id3954E5AA59AF45EBBF87109F826952D1"><enum>(2)</enum><text>utters or

				publishes as true, or possesses with intent to utter or publish as true, any

				record, document, or writing described in paragraph (1), knowing, or

				negligently failing to know, that such record, document, or writing has not

				been verified, has been inconclusively verified, is unable to be verified, or

				is false, altered, forged, or counterfeited;</text>

						</paragraph><paragraph id="id9342A8B93A784B14A3DB32FFF6B356C5"><enum>(3)</enum><text>transmits to, or

				presents at any office, or to any officer, of the United States, any record,

				document, or writing described in paragraph (1), knowing, or negligently

				failing to know, that such record, document, or writing has not been verified,

				has been inconclusively verified, is unable to be verified, or is false,

				altered, forged, or counterfeited;</text>

						</paragraph><paragraph id="idADA78F9D98C242E9B91685F39DB0E525"><enum>(4)</enum><text>attempts, or

				conspires to commit, any of the acts described in paragraphs (1) through (3);

				or</text>

						</paragraph><paragraph id="idA8E6C269AE794D24A87495BE60CDECB7"><enum>(5)</enum><text>while outside of

				the United States, engages in any of the acts described in paragraphs (1)

				through (3),</text>

						</paragraph></section><quoted-block-continuation-text quoted-block-continuation-text-level="subsection">shall be

				fined under this title, imprisoned not more than 10 years, or

				<enum>(b)</enum>

				<header>Clerical amendment</header>

				<text>The table of contents for chapter 25 of title 18, United States

			 Code, is amended by inserting after the item relating to section 514 the

			 following:</text>
