<official-title>To extend for 18 months the period for which <external-xref legal-doc="usc-chapter" parsable-cite="usc-chapter/11/12">chapter 12</external-xref> of title 11 of the United States Code is reenacted.</official-title>

<section section-type="section-one" id="H6AA3824AAA6944A9A6C20300F583C951" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote>Protection of Family Farmers Act of 2004</quote>.</text></section> 
<section id="H966A664507474B858FAD7637BCB5729D"><enum>2.</enum><header>Eighteen-month extension of period for which <external-xref legal-doc="usc-chapter" parsable-cite="usc-chapter/11/12">chapter 12</external-xref> of title 11, United States Code, is reenacted</header> 
<subsection id="H249A8D2FEB7B4ACA917B369DA627B06B"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Amendments</header><text>Section 149 of title I of division C of <external-xref legal-doc="public-law" parsable-cite="pl/105/277">Public Law 105–277</external-xref> (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/11/1201">11 U.S.C. 1201</external-xref> note) is amended—</text> 
<paragraph id="H5CF8C398275F449A9D5D950701334C21"><enum>(1)</enum><text>by striking <quote>January 1, 2004</quote> each place it appears and inserting <quote>July 1, 2005</quote>; and</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="H75E54BB33ABE433000EC82205600F545"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in subsection (a)—</text> 
<subparagraph id="H245C637350C5406BB6DE3E2CE752E605"><enum>(A)</enum><text>by striking <quote>June 30, 2003</quote> and inserting <quote>December 31, 2003</quote>; and</text></subparagraph> 
<subparagraph id="H3932A2591D7644B69E17C6F83CD844DC"><enum>(B)</enum><text>by striking <quote>July 1, 2003</quote> and inserting <quote>January 1, 2004</quote>.</text></subparagraph></paragraph></subsection> 
<subsection id="H77607D30EFF54D3A95AFF5B0029174C7"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Effective date</header><text>The amendments made by subsection (a) take effect on January 1, 2004.</text></subsection></section>
