<section section-type="section-one" id="H10EBE636F01E4911AD418BDA22DFFD4E" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Providing Annual Pap Tests to Save Women’s Lives Act of 2004</short-title></quote>.</text></section>

<subsection id="HC280302FC162413DA2A2D94130B64250"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header>
<paragraph id="H846EB59643684A09A6812E18561D7BA8"><enum>(1)</enum><header>Annual screening pap smear</header><text>Section 1861(nn)(1) of the <act-name parsable-cite="SSA">Social Security Act</act-name> (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/1395x">42 U.S.C. 1395x(nn)(1)</external-xref>) is amended by striking <quote>, if the individual involved</quote> and all that follows before the period and inserting <quote>if the woman involved has not had such a test during the preceding year</quote>.</text></paragraph>
<paragraph id="HED730D4FEE574171A42CAB26D031D287"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Annual screening pelvic exam</header><text>Section 1861(nn)(2) of the <act-name parsable-cite="SSA">Social Security Act</act-name> (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/1395x">42 U.S.C. 1395x(nn)(2)</external-xref>) is amended by striking <quote>during the preceding 2 years, or during the preceding year in the case of a woman described in paragraph (3),</quote> and inserting <quote>during the preceding year,</quote>.</text></paragraph>
<paragraph id="HAEE80FD035F149E692786C8229AE0BB"><enum>(3)</enum><header>Conforming amendment</header><text>Section 1861(nn) of the <act-name parsable-cite="SSA">Social Security Act</act-name> (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/1395x">42 U.S.C. 1395x(nn)</external-xref>) is amended by striking paragraph (3).</text></paragraph></subsection>
<subsection id="HAC3C0FAD00F14C05A745661324AC5DCC"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Effective date</header><text>The amendments made by subsection (a) apply to items and services furnished on or after January 1, 2005.</text></subsection></section>
