<official-title>To improve the efficiency of the Department of Energy’s Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program, and for other purposes.</official-title>

<section id="H994C2E7E26AE4A8E9148007482C09B56" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Improvements to Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program</header> 
<subsection id="HDDD535D0D86E454EBBC0BA8F01DAE832"><enum>(a)</enum><header>State agreements</header><text>Section 3661 of the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act of 2000 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/7385o">42 U.S.C. 7385o</external-xref>) is amended—</text> 
<paragraph id="HC7AB4C713B7148F7A47B493366F7388"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in subsection (b) by striking <quote>Pursuant to agreements under subsection (a), the</quote> and inserting <quote>The</quote>;</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="HE512157BAC5C480CB4D5104FEBD66C6B"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in subsection (c) by striking <quote>provided in an agreement under subsection (a), and if</quote>; and</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="H2827E3625F274E7D963D431E9416D96C"><enum>(3)</enum><text>in subsection (e) by striking <quote>If provided in an agreement under subsection (a)</quote> and inserting <quote>If a panel reports a determination under subsection (d)(5)</quote>.</text></paragraph></subsection> 
<subsection id="HE2200D6A74D34DBCA57F0026D8DD181"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Selection of panel members</header><text>Section 3661 of that Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/7385o">42 U.S.C. 7385o</external-xref>) is further amended in subsection (d) by amending paragraph (2) to read as follows:</text>

<paragraph id="H50DFF00B26A34BC29957D9D562C0ADC5"><enum>(2)</enum><text>The Secretary of Health and Human Services shall select individuals to serve as panel members based on experience and competency in diagnosing occupational illnesses. For each individual so selected, the Secretary shall appoint that individual as a panel member or obtain by contract the services of that individual as a panel member.</text></paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></subsection></section>
