RESOLUTION
Recognizing the League of United Latin American Citizens for sponsoring
LULAC Senior Citizens Week in California, and commending the League for
providing more than 70 years of service to Hispanic Americans of all
ages.
Whereas the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) was founded in 1929
in Corpus Christi, Texas, to protect the civil rights of Hispanic
Americans;
Whereas LULAC is the oldest and largest membership organization in the United
States devoted exclusively to protecting the interests of Hispanic
Americans;
Whereas LULAC has worked to advance the interests of Hispanic Americans in the
areas of education, employment, economic development, and civil rights;
Whereas the membership of LULAC reflects a broad cross-section of the Hispanic
American community and includes Mexicans, Puerto Ricans, Cubans, and
Central and South Americans;
Whereas LULAC represents Hispanic Americans of all ages, from children to senior
citizens; and
Whereas the California Executive Board of LULAC unanimously declared the week
beginning October 1, 2001, as ``LULAC Senior Citizens Week'' in honor of
Hispanic American senior citizens in California: Now, therefore, be it
Resolved, That the House of Representatives--
(1) recognizes the League of United Latin American Citizens
for sponsoring LULAC Senior Citizens Week in California; and
(2) commends the League of United Latin American Citizens
for providing more than 70 years of service to Hispanic
Americans of all ages.
