A BILL
To amend title 49, United States Code, to prohibit the operation in
certain metropolitan areas of civil subsonic turbojets that fail to
comply with stage 3 noise levels.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the
United States of America in Congress assembled,
SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.
This Act may be cited as the ``Aircraft Noise Reduction Act of
2001''.
SEC. 2. AIRCRAFT NOISE REDUCTION IN CERTAIN METROPOLITAN AREAS.
Section 47528 of title 49, United States Code, is amended by adding
at the end the following:
``(h) Special Rule for Airports in Certain Metropolitan Areas.--
Notwithstanding any other provision of law, no person may operate after
the date of enactment of this subsection any civil subsonic turbojet
that fails to comply with stage 3 noise levels to or from an airport
located in any of the 20 most populated metropolitan areas in the
United States, as determined by the Secretary.''.
