                                 A BILL


 
 To amend the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act 
to prohibit offering for sale, selling, or purchasing in interstate or 
                  foreign commerce certain shark fins.

    Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the 
United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

    This Act may be cited as the ``Shark Protection Act of 2001''.

SEC. 2. PROHIBITION ON COMMERCE IN CERTAIN SHARK FINS.

    Section 307(1)(P) of the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and 
Management Act (16 U.S.C. 1857(1)(P)) is amended--
            (1) by striking ``or'' after the semicolon at the end of 
        clause (ii);
            (2) by striking the period at the end of clause (iii) and 
        inserting ``; or''; and
            (3) by inserting after clause (iii) the following:
                    ``(iv) to offer for sale, sell, or purchase in 
                interstate or foreign commerce any shark fin that was 
                removed, held in custody, controlled, or landed in 
                violation of this subparagraph.''.
