A BILL
To amend the Quinebaug and Shetucket Rivers Valley National Heritage
Corridor Act of 1994 to provide for implementation of the management
plan for the Corridor to protect resources critical to maintaining and
interpreting the distinctive character of the Quinebaug and Shetucket
Rivers Valley National Heritage Corridor.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the
United States of America in Congress assembled,
SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.
This Act may be cited as the ``Quinebaug and Shetucket Rivers
Valley National Heritage Corridor Protection Act of 2001''.
SEC 2. PROTECTION OF RESOURCES OF THE QUINEBAUG AND SHETUCKET RIVERS
VALLEY NATIONAL HERITAGE CORRIDOR.
(a) Financial Assistance.--Section 106 of the Quinebaug and
Shetucket Rivers Valley National Heritage Corridor Act of 1994 (Public
Law 103-449; 16 U.S.C. 461 note) is amended--
(1) by redesignating subsection (b) as subsection (c);
(2) in subsection (c) (as so redesignated) by inserting
before the period the following: ``, except grants and
assistance under subsection (b) of this section''; and
(3) by inserting after subsection (a) the following:
``(b) Financial Assistance.--To assist in the implementation of the
management plan in a manner consistent with the purposes of this Act,
the Secretary is authorized to undertake a limited program of financial
assistance to the management entity for the purpose of providing funds
for--
``(1) the protection and restoration of resources necessary
to the maintenance of the distinctive character of the
Corridor; and
``(2) developing necessary infrastructure for the
interpretation of and public access to such resources.''.
(b) Authorization of Appropriations.--Section 109 is amended by
adding at the end the following:
``(c) Development Funds.--In addition to amounts otherwise
authorized by this Act, for providing financial assistance under
section 106(b) there is authorized to be appropriated to the Secretary
$15,000,000 for fiscal years 2002 through 2010. Such funds shall remain
available until expended.''.
