A BILL
To amend the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 to increase the Federal
minimum wage by $1.62 over 3 years.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the
United States of America in Congress assembled,
SECTION 1. MINIMUM WAGE INCREASE.
Section 6(a)(1) of the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 (29 U.S.C.
206(a)(1)) is amended to read as follows:
``(1) except as otherwise provided in this section--
``(A) not less than $5.65 an hour beginning on the
effective date of this subparagraph;
``(B) not less than $6.15 an hour beginning one
year after the effective date of subparagraph (A); and
``(C) not less than $6.77 an hour beginning two
years after the effective date of subparagraph (A);''.
SEC. 2. EFFECTIVE DATE.
The amendment made by this Act shall take effect 90 days after the
date of enactment of this Act.
