A BILL
To require that the level of long-range nuclear forces of the
Department of Defense be reduced to 3,500 warheads consistent with the
provisions of the START II treaty.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the
United States of America in Congress assembled,
SECTION 1. REDUCTION OF NUMBER OF NUCLEAR WARHEADS IN STRATEGIC FORCES.
(a) Required Reduction.--Notwithstanding section 1302 of the
National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 1998 (Public Law
105-85) or any other provision of law, the President shall reduce the
number of nuclear warheads on strategic nuclear delivery systems of the
Armed Forces to 3,500 warheads by the end of 2003, in accordance with
the provisions of the START II treaty.
(b) START II Treaty.--For purposes of this section, the term
``START II Treaty'' means the treaty referred to in section 1302(f)(2)
of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 1998 (Public
Law 105-85).
