A BILL
To amend the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 to increase the minimum
wage by $1 over 2 years.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the
United States of America in Congress assembled,
SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.
This Act may be cited as the ``Minimum Wage Act of 2001''.
SEC. 2. MINIMUM WAGE INCREASE.
Paragraph (1) of section 6(a) of the Fair Labor Standards Act of
1938 (29 U.S.C. 206(a)) is amended to read as follows:
``(1) except as otherwise provided in this section. Not
less than $5.15 an hour during the period ending June 30, 2001,
not less than $5.65 an hour during the year beginning July 1,
2001, and not less than $6.15 an hour beginning July 1,
2002;''.
