A BILL
To codify the rule establishing a maximum contaminant level for arsenic
published in the Federal Register by the Environmental Protection
Agency on January 22, 2001, and for other purposes.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the
United States of America in Congress assembled,
SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.
This Act may be cited as the ``Get Arsenic Out of Our Drinking
Water Act''.
SEC. 2. CODIFICATION OF EPA ARSENIC RULE FOR DRINKING WATER.
Effective on the date of the enactment of this Act, the rule
establishing an enforceable Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL) for arsenic
of 0.010 mg/L (10 micrograms per Liter) and a health-based, non-
enforceable Maximum Contaminant Level Goal (MCLG) published by the
Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency on January 22,
2001 in volume 66 of the Federal Register beginning on page 6976 (66 FR
6976) shall have the force and effect of law.
SEC. 3. SAVINGS PROVISION.
Nothing in this Act shall limit the authority of the Administrator
of the Environmental Protection Agency under section 1412(b)(9) of the
Safe Drinking Water Act.
SEC. 4. AUTHORIZATION OF APPROPRIATIONS.
Section 1452(m) of the Safe Drinking Water Act (42 U.S.C. 300j-12)
is amended by striking ``$1,000,000,000'' and inserting
``$2,000,000,000''.
