submitted the following resolution; which was referred to the Committee
on Resources

RESOLUTION
Commending Jack Elrod for his contributions to the United States.
Whereas Jack Elrod served as a weather forecaster in the United States Navy
during World War II;
Whereas Jack Elrod authors and illustrates the Mark Trail comic strip and has
been associated with the strip since 1950;
Whereas the Mark Trail comic strip regularly appears in more than 175
newspapers;
Whereas Jack Elrod has been dedicated to nature and the environment throughout
his public and private life, and his cartoon character, Mark Trail, has
exhibited that same dedication throughout the existence of the comic
strip;
Whereas Jack Elrod, through the Mark Trail comic strip, shares with his readers
his love of nature and the environment and educates them with regard to
environmental and safety issues;
Whereas Jack Elrod has made invaluable contributions to the National Oceanic and
Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to promote safety and quality of life;
Whereas Jack Elrod, through the Mark Trail comic strip, has promoted the use of
NOAA weather radio as a means of monitoring dangerous weather
conditions; and
Whereas Jack Elrod is an exemplary husband, father, and grandfather, and
continues to demonstrate his commitment to safety and the environment:
Now, therefore, be it
Resolved, That the House of Representatives--
(1) congratulates Jack Elrod for the ongoing success of the
Mark Trail comic strip;
(2) commends Jack Elrod for his longstanding dedication to
safety and the environment, as expressed throughout his public
and private life and through his Mark Trail comic strip; and
(3) expresses gratitude to Jack Elrod for the valuable and
exemplary contributions he has made to the Nation.
