                          doctor of medicine.

Mr. Montgomery introduced the following bill; which was referred to the

To amend title 38, United States Code, to repeal a requirement that the 
 Under Secretary for Health in the Department of Veterans Affairs be a 
                          doctor of medicine.

    Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the 
United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. REPEAL OF REQUIREMENT THAT UNDER SECRETARY OF VETERANS 
              AFFAIRS FOR HEALTH BE A DOCTOR OF MEDICINE.

    (a) Repeal.--Subsection (a)(2) of section 305 of title 38, United 
States Code, is amended--
            (1) in the matter preceding subparagraph (A), by striking 
        out ``shall be a doctor of medicine and''; and
            (2) in subparagraph (A)--
                    (A) by striking out ``in the medical profession,''; 
                and
                    (B) by striking out the comma after ``policy 
                formulation''.
    (b) Technical Correction.--Subsection (a)(1) of such section is 
amended by striking out ``a Under Secretary'' and inserting in lieu 
thereof ``an Under Secretary''.
