JOINT RESOLUTION
Designating May 6, 1994, as ``African-American Women Positive Role
Model Day''.
Whereas African-American women have strengthened and contributed to the United
States in every aspect of life, including art, science, civil service,
military service, athletics, education, business, law, and politics;
Whereas African-American women have played an essential role as heads of
households and pillars of proud and productive African-American
families, often in hostile social and economic environments;
Whereas African-American women have ably assumed community, regional, national,
and international leadership roles, thereby achieving well-deserved
recognition for their contributions and achievements; and
Whereas African-American women continue to serve as strong, positive role models
for the young within their communities, as well as throughout the Nation
and the world: Now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United
States of America in Congress assembled,
That May 6, 1994, is designated as ``African-American Women Positive
Role Model Day'', and the President is authorized and requested to
issue a proclamation calling on the people of the United States to
observe such day with appropriate ceremonies and activities.
