<section id="d163930e85" identifier="/us/pl/116/78/s1" style="-uslm-lc:I658146"><num class="bold" value="1">SECTION 1. </num><heading>GOVERNMENT PUBLISHING OFFICE.</heading><subsection class="firstIndent0 fontsize10" id="ycd11bd3a-e81e-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" identifier="/us/pl/116/78/s1/a" role="instruction" style="-uslm-lc:I658120"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="a">(a) </num><heading class="fontsize10"><inline class="smallCaps">In General</inline>.—</heading><content><ref href="/us/usc/t18/s442">Section 442 of title 18, United States Code</ref>, <amendingAction type="amend">is amended</amendingAction> to read as follows:<quotedContent><section class="centered fontsize12" id="ycd120b5b-e81e-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" style="-uslm-lc:I658163"><num class="fontsize12" value="442">“§ 442.</num><heading class="fontsize12"> Government Publishing Office</heading><subsection class="firstIndent0 fontsize10" id="ycd120b5c-e81e-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" style="-uslm-lc:I658120"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="a">“(a) </num><heading class="fontsize10"><inline class="smallCaps">Definitions</inline>.—</heading><chapeau>In this section—</chapeau><paragraph class="fontsize10" id="ycd120b5d-e81e-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" style="-uslm-lc:I658122"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="1">“(1) </num><content>the terms ‘diversified’, ‘employee benefit plan’, ‘holdings’, ‘mutual fund’, and ‘unit investment trust’ have the meanings given those terms under <ref href="/us/cfr/t5/s2640.102">section 2640.102 of title 5, Code of Federal Regulations</ref>, or any successor thereto; and</content></paragraph>
<paragraph class="fontsize10" id="ycd120b5e-e81e-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" role="definitions" style="-uslm-lc:I658122"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="2">“(2) </num><chapeau>the term ‘<term>printing-related interest</term>’ means an interest, direct or indirect, in—</chapeau><subparagraph class="fontsize10" id="ycd120b5f-e81e-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" style="-uslm-lc:I658124"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="A">“(A) </num><content>the publication of any newspaper or periodical;</content></subparagraph>
<subparagraph class="fontsize10" id="ycd120b60-e81e-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" style="-uslm-lc:I658124"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="B">“(B) </num><content>any printing, binding, engraving, or lithographing of any kind; or</content></subparagraph>
<subparagraph class="fontsize10" id="ycd120b61-e81e-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" style="-uslm-lc:I658124"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="C">“(C) </num><content>any contract for furnishing paper or other material connected with the public printing, binding, lithographing, or engraving.</content></subparagraph>

</subsection>
<subsection class="firstIndent0 fontsize10" id="ycd120b62-e81e-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" style="-uslm-lc:I658120"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="b">“(b) </num><heading class="fontsize10"><inline class="smallCaps">Offense</inline>.—</heading><paragraph class="fontsize10" id="ycd123273-e81e-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" style="-uslm-lc:I658122"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="1">“(1) </num><heading class="fontsize10"><inline class="smallCaps">In general</inline>.—</heading><content>Except as provided in paragraph (2), the Director of the Government Publishing Office, Deputy Director of the Government Publishing Office, nor any of their assistants as determined by the Director of the Government Publishing Office shall not, during his or her continuance in office, have any printing-related interest.</content></paragraph>
<paragraph class="fontsize10" id="ycd123274-e81e-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" style="-uslm-lc:I658122"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="2">“(2) </num><heading class="fontsize10"><inline class="smallCaps">Exception for mutual funds, unit investment trusts, employee benefit plans, and retirement plans</inline>.—</heading><content>It shall not be a violation of paragraph (1) for an individual who is described in such paragraph to have an interest in a diversified mutual fund, diversified unit investment trust, employee benefit plan, investment fund under the Thrift Savings Plan under subchapter III of chapter 84 of title 5, or pension plan established or maintained by a State government or any political subdivision of a State government for its employees that has 1 or more holdings that are printing-related interests if the fund, trust, or plan does not exhibit a practice of concentrating in printing-related interests.<page identifier="/us/stat/133/1176">133 STAT. 1176</page></content></paragraph>
<paragraph class="fontsize10" id="ycd123275-e81e-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" style="-uslm-lc:I658122"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="3">“(3) </num><heading class="fontsize10"><inline class="smallCaps">Authority of supervising ethics office</inline>.—</heading><content>The supervising ethics office for the Government Publishing Office under the Ethics in Government Act of 1978 (<ref href="/us/usc/t5/app">5 U.S.C. App.</ref>) shall have the authority to issue rules and promulgate regulations governing the implementation of this subsection.</content></paragraph>
</subsection>
<subsection class="firstIndent0 fontsize10" id="ycd123276-e81e-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" style="-uslm-lc:I658120"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="c">“(c) </num><heading class="fontsize10"><inline class="smallCaps">Penalty</inline>.—</heading><content>Whoever violates subsection (b)(1) shall be fined under this title, imprisoned for not more than 1 year, or both.”</content></subsection>
