<section id="d173569e85" identifier="/us/pl/116/331/s1" style="-uslm-lc:I658146"><num class="bold" value="1">SECTION 1. </num><heading>DESIGNATION OF MANHATTAN CAMPUS OF THE NEW YORK HARBOR HEALTH CARE SYSTEM OF THE DEPARTMENT OF VETERANS AFFAIRS, NEW YORK.</heading><subsection class="firstIndent0 fontsize10" id="y28be99df-e821-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" identifier="/us/pl/116/331/s1/a" style="-uslm-lc:I658120"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="a">(a) </num><heading class="fontsize10"><inline class="smallCaps">Findings</inline>.—</heading><chapeau>Congress makes the following findings:</chapeau><paragraph class="fontsize10" id="y28be99e0-e821-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" identifier="/us/pl/116/331/s1/a/1" style="-uslm-lc:I658122"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="1">(1) </num><sidenote><p class="leftAlign firstIndent0 fontsize8" id="x28be99e1-e821-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" style="-uslm-lc:I658180">John Corbin.</p></sidenote><content>Margaret Cochran was born in Franklin County, Pennsylvania, on November 12, 1751, and married John Corbin in 1772.</content></paragraph>
<paragraph class="fontsize10" id="y28be99e2-e821-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" identifier="/us/pl/116/331/s1/a/2" style="-uslm-lc:I658122"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="2">(2) </num><content>Three years after the marriage, when John Corbin left to fight in the Revolutionary War as an artilleryman, Margaret Corbin accompanied him to war to support the Revolutionary Army.</content></paragraph>
<paragraph class="fontsize10" id="y28be99e3-e821-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" identifier="/us/pl/116/331/s1/a/3" style="-uslm-lc:I658122"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="3">(3) </num><content>Margaret Corbin supported the Revolutionary Army by caring for injured and sick soldiers as well as by cooking and cleaning. During battle, she also helped her husband load the cannon he was responsible for manning.</content></paragraph>
<paragraph class="fontsize10" id="y28be99e4-e821-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" identifier="/us/pl/116/331/s1/a/4" style="-uslm-lc:I658122"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="4">(4) </num><content>On November 16, 1776, John Corbin was manning a cannon during the Battle of Fort Washington on Manhattan Island, New York, when he was killed. Margaret Corbin heroically took her husband’s place, firing the cannon until she, too, was hit by enemy fire and seriously wounded.</content></paragraph>
<paragraph class="fontsize10" id="y28be99e5-e821-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" identifier="/us/pl/116/331/s1/a/5" style="-uslm-lc:I658122"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="5">(5) </num><content>Having lost the use of her left arm, Margaret Corbin was assigned to the “Invalid Regiment” at West Point, New York.</content></paragraph>
<paragraph class="fontsize10" id="y28be99e6-e821-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" identifier="/us/pl/116/331/s1/a/6" style="-uslm-lc:I658122"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="6">(6) </num><content>The Continental Congress awarded Margaret Corbin a lifelong pension for her injuries, making her the first woman to receive a pension from the United States by virtue of military service for the United States.</content></paragraph>
<paragraph class="fontsize10" id="y28be99e7-e821-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" identifier="/us/pl/116/331/s1/a/7" style="-uslm-lc:I658122"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="7">(7) </num><content>Margaret Corbin died in 1789 in Highland Falls, New York. She is honored nearby at West Point as a hero of the Revolutionary War.</content></paragraph>
</subsection>
<subsection class="firstIndent0 fontsize10" id="y28be99e8-e821-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" identifier="/us/pl/116/331/s1/b" style="-uslm-lc:I658120"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="b">(b) </num><heading class="fontsize10"><inline class="smallCaps">Designation</inline>.—</heading><content>The Manhattan Campus of the New York Harbor Health Care System of the Department of Veterans Affairs in New York, New York, shall after the date of the enactment of this Act be known and designated as the “Margaret Cochran Corbin Campus of the New York Harbor Health Care System” or the “Margaret Cochran Corbin VA Campus”.</content></subsection>
<subsection class="firstIndent0 fontsize10" id="y28be99e9-e821-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" identifier="/us/pl/116/331/s1/c" style="-uslm-lc:I658120"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="c">(c) </num><heading class="fontsize10"><inline class="smallCaps">Reference</inline>.—</heading><content>Any reference in any law, regulation, map, document, paper, or other record of the United States to the Campus <page identifier="/us/stat/134/5110">134 STAT. 5110</page>
referred to in subsection (b) shall be deemed to be a reference to the Margaret Cochran Corbin Campus of the New York Harbor Health Care System.</content></subsection>
