<section id="d231503e88" identifier="/us/pl/116/143/s1" style="-uslm-lc:I658146"><num class="bold" value="1">SECTION 1. </num><sidenote><p class="leftAlign firstIndent0 fontsize8" id="x3a594f32-e829-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" style="-uslm-lc:I658180"><ref href="/us/usc/t34/s10101">34 USC 10101 note</ref>.</p></sidenote><heading>SHORT TITLE.</heading><content style="-uslm-lc:I658120">  This Act may be cited as the “<shortTitle role="act">Law Enforcement Suicide Data Collection Act</shortTitle>”.</content></section>
<section id="d231503e103" identifier="/us/pl/116/143/s2" style="-uslm-lc:I658141"><num class="fontsize12" value="2">SEC. 2. </num><sidenote><p class="leftAlign firstIndent0 fontsize8" id="x3a594f33-e829-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" style="-uslm-lc:I658180"><ref href="/us/usc/t34/s50701">34 USC 50701</ref>.</p></sidenote><heading>INFORMATION ON SUICIDE IN LAW ENFORCEMENT.</heading><subsection class="firstIndent0 fontsize10" id="y3a59c464-e829-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" identifier="/us/pl/116/143/s2/a" style="-uslm-lc:I658120"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="a">(a) </num><sidenote><p class="leftAlign firstIndent0 fontsize8" id="x3a59c465-e829-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" style="-uslm-lc:I658180">Deadline.</p></sidenote><heading class="fontsize10"><inline class="smallCaps">Establishment</inline>.—</heading><chapeau>Not later than 1 year after the date of enactment of this Act, the Attorney General, acting through the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, shall establish, for the purpose of preventing future law enforcement suicides and promoting understanding of suicide in law enforcement, the Law Enforcement Officers Suicide Data Collection Program, under which law enforcement agencies may submit to the Director information on suicides and attempted suicides within such law enforcement agencies, including information on—</chapeau><paragraph class="fontsize10" id="y3a59eb76-e829-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" identifier="/us/pl/116/143/s2/a/1" style="-uslm-lc:I658122"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="1">(1) </num><content>the circumstances and events that occurred before each suicide or attempted suicide;</content></paragraph>
<paragraph class="fontsize10" id="y3a59eb77-e829-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" identifier="/us/pl/116/143/s2/a/2" style="-uslm-lc:I658122"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="2">(2) </num><content>the general location of each suicide or attempted suicide;</content></paragraph>
<paragraph class="fontsize10" id="y3a59eb78-e829-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" identifier="/us/pl/116/143/s2/a/3" style="-uslm-lc:I658122"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="3">(3) </num><content>the demographic information of each law enforcement officer who commits or attempts suicide;</content></paragraph>
<paragraph class="fontsize10" id="y3a59eb79-e829-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" identifier="/us/pl/116/143/s2/a/4" style="-uslm-lc:I658122"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="4">(4) </num><content>the occupational category, including criminal investigator, corrections officer, line of duty officer, 911 dispatch operator, of each law enforcement officer who commits or attempts suicide; and</content></paragraph>
<paragraph class="fontsize10" id="y3a59eb7a-e829-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" identifier="/us/pl/116/143/s2/a/5" style="-uslm-lc:I658122"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="5">(5) </num><content>the method used in each suicide or attempted suicide.</content></paragraph>
</subsection>
<subsection class="firstIndent0 fontsize10" id="y3a59eb7b-e829-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" identifier="/us/pl/116/143/s2/b" style="-uslm-lc:I658120"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="b">(b) </num><heading class="fontsize10"><inline class="smallCaps">Policies</inline>.—</heading><content>The Federal Bureau of Investigation shall work with the Confidentiality and Data Access Committee of the Federal Committee on Statistical Methodology to develop publication policies to manage the risk of identity disclosure based upon the best practices identified by other Federal statistical programs.</content></subsection>
<subsection class="firstIndent0 fontsize10" id="y3a59eb7c-e829-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" identifier="/us/pl/116/143/s2/c" style="-uslm-lc:I658120"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="c">(c) </num><sidenote><p class="leftAlign firstIndent0 fontsize8" id="x3a59eb7d-e829-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" style="-uslm-lc:I658180">Web posting.</p></sidenote><heading class="fontsize10"><inline class="smallCaps">Report</inline>.—</heading><content>Not later than 2 years after the date of enactment of this Act, and annually thereafter, the Attorney General, acting through the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, shall submit to Congress and publish on the website of the Federal Bureau of Investigation a report containing the information submitted to the Director pursuant to subsection (a).</content></subsection>
<subsection class="firstIndent0 fontsize10" id="y3a59eb7e-e829-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" identifier="/us/pl/116/143/s2/d" style="-uslm-lc:I658120"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="d">(d) </num><heading class="fontsize10"><inline class="smallCaps">Confidentiality</inline>.—</heading><content>The report described under subsection (c) may not include any personally identifiable information of a law enforcement officer who commits or attempts suicide.</content></subsection>
<subsection class="firstIndent0 fontsize10" id="y3a59eb7f-e829-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" identifier="/us/pl/116/143/s2/e" style="-uslm-lc:I658120"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="e">(e) </num><heading class="fontsize10"><inline class="smallCaps">Definitions</inline>.—</heading><chapeau>In this section—<page identifier="/us/stat/134/645">134 STAT. 645</page></chapeau><paragraph class="fontsize10" id="y3a59eb80-e829-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" identifier="/us/pl/116/143/s2/e/1" role="definitions" style="-uslm-lc:I658122"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="1">(1) </num><content>the term “<term>law enforcement agency</term>” means a Federal, State, Tribal, or local agency engaged in the prevention, detection, or investigation, prosecution, or adjudication of any violation of the criminal laws of the United States, a State, Tribal, or a political subdivision of a State;</content></paragraph>
<paragraph class="fontsize10" id="y3a59eb81-e829-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" identifier="/us/pl/116/143/s2/e/2" role="definitions" style="-uslm-lc:I658122"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="2">(2) </num><content>the term “<term>law enforcement officer</term>” means any current or former officer (including a correctional officer), agent, or employee of the United States, a State, Indian Tribe, or a political subdivision of a State authorized by law to engage in or supervise the prevention, detection, investigation, or prosecution of any violation of the criminal laws of the United States, a State, Indian Tribe, or a political subdivision of a State; and</content></paragraph>
<paragraph class="fontsize10" id="y3a59eb82-e829-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" identifier="/us/pl/116/143/s2/e/3" role="definitions" style="-uslm-lc:I658122"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="3">(3) </num><content>the term “<term>State</term>” means each of the several States, the District of Columbia, and any commonwealth, territory, or possession of the United States.</content></paragraph>
