<section id="d122016e85" identifier="/us/pl/116/128/s1" style="-uslm-lc:I658146"><num class="bold" value="1">SECTION 1. </num><sidenote><p class="leftAlign firstIndent0 fontsize8" id="xed1e1462-e829-11f0-a1e4-69761a48a15a" style="-uslm-lc:I658180"><ref href="/us/usc/t38/s3001">38 USC 3001 note</ref> prec.</p></sidenote><heading>CONTINUATION OF DEPARTMENT OF VETERANS AFFAIRS EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANCE BENEFITS FOR CERTAIN PROGRAMS OF EDUCATION CONVERTED TO DISTANCE LEARNING BY REASON OF EMERGENCIES AND HEALTH-RELATED SITUATIONS.</heading><subsection class="firstIndent0 fontsize10" id="yed1e6283-e829-11f0-a1e4-69761a48a15a" identifier="/us/pl/116/128/s1/a" style="-uslm-lc:I658120"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="a">(a) </num><heading class="fontsize10"><inline class="smallCaps">In General</inline>.—</heading><chapeau><sidenote><p class="leftAlign firstIndent0 fontsize8" id="xed1e6284-e829-11f0-a1e4-69761a48a15a" style="-uslm-lc:I658180">Determination.</p></sidenote>In the case of a program of education approved by a State approving agency, or the Secretary of Veterans Affairs when acting in the role of a State approving agency, that is converted from being offered on-site at an educational institution to being offered by distance learning by reason of an emergency or health-related situation, as determined by the Secretary, the Secretary may continue to provide educational assistance under the laws administered by the Secretary without regard to such conversion, including with respect to paying any—</chapeau><paragraph class="fontsize10" id="yed1e6285-e829-11f0-a1e4-69761a48a15a" identifier="/us/pl/116/128/s1/a/1" style="-uslm-lc:I658122"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="1">(1) </num><content>monthly housing stipends under <ref href="/us/usc/t38/ch33">chapter 33 of title 38, United States Code</ref>; or</content></paragraph>
<paragraph class="fontsize10" id="yed1e6286-e829-11f0-a1e4-69761a48a15a" identifier="/us/pl/116/128/s1/a/2" style="-uslm-lc:I658122"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="2">(2) </num><content>payments or subsistence allowances under chapters 30, 31, 32, and 35 of such title and chapters 1606 and 1607 of <ref href="/us/usc/t10">title 10, United States Code</ref>.</content></paragraph>
</subsection>
<subsection class="firstIndent0 fontsize10" id="yed1e6287-e829-11f0-a1e4-69761a48a15a" identifier="/us/pl/116/128/s1/b" style="-uslm-lc:I658120"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="b">(b) </num><heading class="fontsize10"><inline class="smallCaps">Applicability Period</inline>.—</heading><content>Subsection (a) shall apply during the period beginning on March 1, 2020, and ending on December 21, 2020.</content></subsection>
<subsection class="firstIndent0 fontsize10" id="yed1e6288-e829-11f0-a1e4-69761a48a15a" identifier="/us/pl/116/128/s1/c" style="-uslm-lc:I658120"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="c">(c) </num><heading class="fontsize10"><inline class="smallCaps">Definitions</inline>.—</heading><chapeau>In this section:</chapeau><paragraph class="fontsize10" id="yed1e6289-e829-11f0-a1e4-69761a48a15a" identifier="/us/pl/116/128/s1/c/1" role="definitions" style="-uslm-lc:I658122"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="1">(1) </num><heading class="fontsize10"><inline class="smallCaps">Educational institution</inline>.—</heading><content>The term “<term>educational institution</term>” has the meaning given that term in <ref href="/us/usc/t38/s3452">section 3452 of title 38, United States Code</ref>, and includes an institution of higher learning (as defined in such section).</content></paragraph>
<paragraph class="fontsize10" id="yed1e628a-e829-11f0-a1e4-69761a48a15a" identifier="/us/pl/116/128/s1/c/2" role="definitions" style="-uslm-lc:I658122"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="2">(2) </num><heading class="fontsize10"><inline class="smallCaps">Program of education</inline>.—</heading><content>The term “<term>program of education</term>” has the meaning given that term in <ref href="/us/usc/t38/s3002">section 3002 of title 38, United States Code</ref>.</content></paragraph>
<paragraph class="fontsize10" id="yed1e628b-e829-11f0-a1e4-69761a48a15a" identifier="/us/pl/116/128/s1/c/3" role="definitions" style="-uslm-lc:I658122"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="3">(3) </num><heading class="fontsize10"><inline class="smallCaps">State approving agency</inline>.—</heading><content>The term “<term>State approving agency</term>” has the meaning given that term in <ref href="/us/usc/t38/s3671">section 3671 of title 38, United States Code</ref>.<page identifier="/us/stat/134/222">134 STAT. 222</page></content></paragraph>

<section id="d122016e185" identifier="/us/pl/116/128/s2" style="-uslm-lc:I658141"><num class="fontsize12" value="2">SEC. 2. </num><heading>EMERGENCY DESIGNATIONS.</heading><subsection class="firstIndent0 fontsize10" id="yed1e899c-e829-11f0-a1e4-69761a48a15a" identifier="/us/pl/116/128/s2/a" style="-uslm-lc:I658120"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="a">(a) </num><heading class="fontsize10"><inline class="smallCaps">In General</inline>.—</heading><content>This Act is designated as an emergency requirement pursuant to section 4(g) of the Statutory Pay-As-You-Go Act of 2010 (<ref href="/us/usc/t2/s933/g">2 U.S.C. 933(g)</ref>).</content></subsection>
<subsection class="firstIndent0 fontsize10" id="yed1e899d-e829-11f0-a1e4-69761a48a15a" identifier="/us/pl/116/128/s2/b" style="-uslm-lc:I658120"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="b">(b) </num><heading class="fontsize10"><inline class="smallCaps">Designation in Senate</inline>.—</heading><content>In the Senate, this Act is designated as an emergency requirement pursuant to section 4112(a) of H. Con. Res. 71 (115th Congress), the concurrent resolution on the budget for fiscal year 2018.</content></subsection>
