<section id="d314239e94" identifier="/us/pl/115/107/s1" style="-uslm-lc:I658146"><num class="bold" value="1">SECTION 1. </num><heading>SHORT TITLE.</heading><content style="-uslm-lc:I658120">  This Act may be cited as the “<shortTitle role="act">Sexual Assault Forensic Evidence Reporting Act of 2017</shortTitle>” or the “<shortTitle role="act">SAFER Act of 2017</shortTitle>”.</content></section>
<section id="d314239e107" identifier="/us/pl/115/107/s2" role="instruction" style="-uslm-lc:I658141"><num class="fontsize12" value="2">SEC. 2. </num><heading>PEDIATRIC SEXUAL ASSAULT NURSE EXAMINERS.</heading><chapeau class="indentUp0 firstIndent0 fontsize10" id="x3d26decb-e83a-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" style="-uslm-lc:I658120">  Section 304(c)(2) of the DNA Sexual Assault Justice Act of 2004 (<ref href="/us/usc/t34/s40723/c/2">34 U.S.C. 40723(c)(2)</ref>) <amendingAction type="amend">is amended</amendingAction>—</chapeau><paragraph class="fontsize10" id="y3d26decc-e83a-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" identifier="/us/pl/115/107/s2/1" style="-uslm-lc:I658122"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="1">(1) </num><content>by <amendingAction type="insert">inserting</amendingAction> “<quotedText>, both adult and pediatric,</quotedText>” after “<quotedText>role of forensic nurses</quotedText>”; and</content></paragraph>
<paragraph class="fontsize10" id="y3d26decd-e83a-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" identifier="/us/pl/115/107/s2/2" style="-uslm-lc:I658122"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="2">(2) </num><content>by <amendingAction type="delete">striking</amendingAction> “<quotedText>and elder abuse</quotedText>” and <amendingAction type="insert">inserting</amendingAction> “<quotedText>elder abuse, and, in particular, the need for pediatric sexual assault nurse examiners, including such nurse examiners working in the multidisciplinary setting, in responding to abuse of both children and adolescents</quotedText>”.</content></paragraph>

<section id="d314239e141" identifier="/us/pl/115/107/s3" style="-uslm-lc:I658141"><num class="fontsize12" value="3">SEC. 3. </num><heading>REDUCING THE RAPE KIT BACKLOG.</heading><subsection class="firstIndent0 fontsize10" id="y3d26dece-e83a-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" identifier="/us/pl/115/107/s3/a" role="instruction" style="-uslm-lc:I658120"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="a">(a) </num><heading class="fontsize10"><inline class="smallCaps">Reauthorization</inline>.—</heading><content>Section 2(c)(4) of the DNA Analysis Backlog Elimination Act of 2000 (<ref href="/us/usc/t34/s40701/c/4">34 U.S.C. 40701(c)(4)</ref>) <amendingAction type="amend">is amended</amendingAction> by <amendingAction type="delete">striking</amendingAction> “<quotedText>2017</quotedText>” and <amendingAction type="insert">inserting</amendingAction> “<quotedText>2022</quotedText>”.</content></subsection>
<subsection class="firstIndent0 fontsize10" id="y3d26decf-e83a-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" identifier="/us/pl/115/107/s3/b" role="instruction" style="-uslm-lc:I658120"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="b">(b) </num><heading class="fontsize10"><inline class="smallCaps">Sunset</inline>.—</heading><content>Section 1006 of the SAFER Act of 2013 (<ref href="/us/usc/t34/s40701">34 U.S.C. 40701 note</ref>) <amendingAction type="amend">is amended</amendingAction> by <amendingAction type="delete">striking</amendingAction> “<quotedText>2018</quotedText>” and <amendingAction type="insert">inserting</amendingAction> “<quotedText>2023</quotedText>”.</content></subsection>
