<section id="d332100e88" identifier="/us/pl/114/242/s1" style="-uslm-lc:I658146"><num class="bold" value="1">SECTION 1. </num><sidenote><p class="leftAlign firstIndent0 fontsize8" id="xa5340026-e858-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" style="-uslm-lc:I658180"><ref href="/us/usc/t40/s40101">40 USC 40101 note</ref>.</p></sidenote><heading>SHORT TITLE.<?GPOvSpace 02?></heading><content style="-uslm-lc:I658120">  This Act may be cited as the “<shortTitle role="act">Federal Aviation Administration Veteran Transition Improvement Act of 2016</shortTitle>”.</content></section>
<section id="d332100e105" identifier="/us/pl/114/242/s2" style="-uslm-lc:I658141"><num class="fontsize12" value="2">SEC. 2. </num><heading>INCLUSION OF DISABLED VETERAN LEAVE IN FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINISTRATION PER­SON­NEL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM.</heading><subsection class="firstIndent0 fontsize10" id="ya5347557-e858-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" identifier="/us/pl/114/242/s2/a" role="instruction" style="-uslm-lc:I658120"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="a">(a) </num><heading class="fontsize10"><inline class="smallCaps">In General</inline>.—</heading><chapeau><ref href="/us/usc/t49/s40122/g/2">Section 40122(g)(2) of title 49, United States Code</ref>, <amendingAction type="amend">is amended</amendingAction>—</chapeau><paragraph class="fontsize10" id="ya5347558-e858-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" identifier="/us/pl/114/242/s2/a/1" style="-uslm-lc:I658122"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="1">(1) </num><content>in subparagraph (H), by <amendingAction type="delete">striking</amendingAction> “<quotedText>; and</quotedText>” and <amendingAction type="insert">inserting</amendingAction> a semicolon;</content></paragraph>
<paragraph class="fontsize10" id="ya5347559-e858-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" identifier="/us/pl/114/242/s2/a/2" style="-uslm-lc:I658122"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="2">(2) </num><content>in subparagraph (I)(iii), by <amendingAction type="delete">striking</amendingAction> the period at the end and <amendingAction type="insert">inserting</amendingAction> “<quotedText>; and</quotedText>”; and</content></paragraph>
<paragraph class="fontsize10" id="ya534755a-e858-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" identifier="/us/pl/114/242/s2/a/3" style="-uslm-lc:I658122"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="3">(3) </num><content>by <amendingAction type="add">adding</amendingAction> at the end the following:<quotedContent><subparagraph class="fontsize10" id="ya534755b-e858-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" style="-uslm-lc:I658124"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="J">“(J) </num><content>subject to paragraph (4) of this subsection, section 6329, relating to disabled veteran leave.”</content></subparagraph>

</subsection>
<subsection class="firstIndent0 fontsize10" id="ya534755c-e858-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" identifier="/us/pl/114/242/s2/b" role="instruction" style="-uslm-lc:I658120"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="b">(b) </num><heading class="fontsize10"><inline class="smallCaps">Certification of Leave</inline>.—</heading><chapeau>Section 40122(g) of such title <amendingAction type="amend">is amended</amendingAction>—</chapeau><paragraph class="fontsize10" id="ya534755d-e858-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" identifier="/us/pl/114/242/s2/b/1" style="-uslm-lc:I658122"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="1">(1) </num><content>by <amendingAction type="redesignate">redesignating</amendingAction> paragraph (4) as paragraph (5); and</content></paragraph>
<paragraph class="fontsize10" id="ya534755e-e858-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" identifier="/us/pl/114/242/s2/b/2" style="-uslm-lc:I658122"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="2">(2) </num><content>by <amendingAction type="insert">inserting</amendingAction> after paragraph (3) the following:<quotedContent><paragraph class="indentUp0 fontsize10" id="ya534755f-e858-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" style="-uslm-lc:I658122"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="4">“(4) </num><heading class="fontsize10"><inline class="smallCaps">Certification of disabled veteran leave</inline>.—</heading><content>In order to verify that leave credited to an employee pursuant to paragraph (2)(J) is used for treating a service-connected disability, that employee shall, notwithstanding section 6329(c) of title 5, submit to the Assistant Administrator for Human Resource Management of the Federal Aviation Administration certification, in such form and manner as the Administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration may prescribe, that the employee used that leave for purposes of being furnished treatment for that disability by a health care provider.”</content></paragraph>

</subsection>
<subsection class="firstIndent0 fontsize10" id="ya5347560-e858-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" identifier="/us/pl/114/242/s2/c" style="-uslm-lc:I658120"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="c">(c) </num><sidenote><p class="leftAlign firstIndent0 fontsize8" id="xa5347561-e858-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" style="-uslm-lc:I658180">Time period.</p><p class="leftAlign firstIndent0 fontsize8" id="xa5347562-e858-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" style="-uslm-lc:I658180"><ref href="/us/usc/t40/s40122">40 USC 40122 note</ref>.</p></sidenote><heading class="fontsize10"><inline class="smallCaps">Application</inline>.—</heading><content>The amendments made by this section shall apply with respect to any employee of the Federal Aviation Administration hired on or after the date that is one year after the date of the enactment of this Act.</content></subsection>
<subsection class="firstIndent0 fontsize10" id="ya5347563-e858-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" identifier="/us/pl/114/242/s2/d" style="-uslm-lc:I658120"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="d">(d) </num><sidenote><p class="leftAlign firstIndent0 fontsize8" id="xa5347564-e858-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" style="-uslm-lc:I658180">Deadline.</p><p class="leftAlign firstIndent0 fontsize8" id="xa5347565-e858-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" style="-uslm-lc:I658180"><ref href="/us/usc/t40/s40122">40 USC 40122 note</ref>.</p></sidenote><heading class="fontsize10"><inline class="smallCaps">Policies and Procedures</inline>.—</heading><content>Not later than 270 days after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration shall prescribe policies and procedures to carry out the amendments made by this section that <page identifier="/us/stat/130/979">130 STAT. 979</page>
are comparable, to the maximum extent practicable, to the regulations prescribed by the Office of Personnel Management under <ref href="/us/usc/t5/s6329">section 6329 of title 5, United States Code</ref>.</content></subsection>
