<section id="d340186e92" identifier="/us/pl/114/14/s1" style="-uslm-lc:I658146"><num class="bold" value="1">SECTION 1. </num><heading>SHORT TITLE.</heading><content style="-uslm-lc:I658120">  This Act may be cited as the “<shortTitle role="act">Don’t Tax Our Fallen Public Safety Heroes Act</shortTitle>”.</content></section>
<section id="d340186e102" identifier="/us/pl/114/14/s2" role="instruction" style="-uslm-lc:I658141"><num class="fontsize12" value="2">SEC. 2. </num><heading>EXCLUSION OF CERTAIN COMPENSATION RECEIVED BY PUBLIC SAFETY OFFICERS AND THEIR DEPENDENTS.</heading><content class="firstIndent0 fontsize10" id="x02bb1312-e869-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" style="-uslm-lc:I658120">  Subsection (a) of section 104 of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986<sidenote><p class="leftAlign firstIndent0 fontsize8" id="x02bb1313-e869-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" style="-uslm-lc:I658180"><ref href="/us/usc/t26/s104">26 USC 104</ref>.</p></sidenote> <amendingAction type="amend">is amended</amendingAction> by <amendingAction type="delete">striking</amendingAction> “<quotedText>and</quotedText>” at the end of paragraph (4), by <amendingAction type="delete">striking</amendingAction> the period at the end of paragraph (5) and <amendingAction type="insert">inserting</amendingAction> “<quotedText>; and</quotedText>”, and by <amendingAction type="insert">inserting</amendingAction> after paragraph (5) the following new paragraph:<quotedContent><paragraph class="fontsize10" id="y02bb1314-e869-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" style="-uslm-lc:I658122"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="6">“(6) </num><chapeau>amounts received pursuant to—</chapeau><subparagraph class="fontsize10" id="y02bb1315-e869-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" style="-uslm-lc:I658124"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="A">“(A) </num><content>section 1201 of the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 (<ref href="/us/usc/t42/s3796">42 U.S.C. 3796</ref>); or</content></subparagraph>
<subparagraph class="fontsize10" id="y02bb1316-e869-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" style="-uslm-lc:I658124"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="B">“(B) </num><content>a program established under the laws of any State which provides monetary compensation for surviving dependents of a public safety officer who has died as the direct and proximate result of a personal injury sustained in the line of duty,</content></subparagraph>
<continuation class="firstIndent1 fontsize10" id="x02bb1317-e869-11f0-bc57-ad3ac4b1618c" style="-uslm-lc:I658122">except that subparagraph (B) shall not apply to any amounts that would have been payable if death of the public safety officer had occurred other than as the direct and proximate result of a personal injury sustained in the line of duty.”</continuation></paragraph>
