<enactingFormula style="-uslm-lc:I658120"><i>  Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa­tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,</i></enactingFormula>
<section id="d296248e85" identifier="/us/pl/113/154/s1" style="-uslm-lc:I658146"><num class="bold" value="1">SECTION 1. </num><sidenote><p class="leftAlign firstIndent0 fontsize8" id="x58fa71be-e893-11f0-a1e4-69761a48a15a" style="-uslm-lc:I658180"><ref href="/us/usc/t22/s6401">22 USC 6401 note</ref>.</p></sidenote><heading>FINDINGS.</heading><chapeau class="indentUp0 firstIndent0 fontsize10" id="x58fa98cf-e893-11f0-a1e4-69761a48a15a" style="-uslm-lc:I658120">  Congress finds the following:</chapeau><paragraph class="fontsize10" id="y58fa98d0-e893-11f0-a1e4-69761a48a15a" identifier="/us/pl/113/154/s1/1" style="-uslm-lc:I658122"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="1">(1) </num><content>Cemeteries are sacred sites that are of great spiritual, cultural, and historical significance to many religious and ethnic groups.</content></paragraph>
<paragraph class="fontsize10" id="y58fa98d1-e893-11f0-a1e4-69761a48a15a" identifier="/us/pl/113/154/s1/2" style="-uslm-lc:I658122"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="2">(2) </num><content>Congress is committed to protecting and preserving the heritage and sacred sites of national, religious, and ethnic groups, which includes cemeteries in the United States and abroad.</content></paragraph>
<paragraph class="fontsize10" id="y58fa98d2-e893-11f0-a1e4-69761a48a15a" identifier="/us/pl/113/154/s1/3" style="-uslm-lc:I658122"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="3">(3) </num><content>Cemeteries around the world have and continue to be defaced or destroyed as a direct result of their affiliation with a particular religious or spiritual group.</content></paragraph>
<paragraph class="fontsize10" id="y58fa98d3-e893-11f0-a1e4-69761a48a15a" identifier="/us/pl/113/154/s1/4" style="-uslm-lc:I658122"><num class="fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="4">(4) </num><content>Such attacks constitute an assault on the fundamental right to freedom of religion, and are especially egregious when sponsored or tolerated by the local or national governments in the countries in which such offenses occur.</content></paragraph>

<section id="d296248e117" identifier="/us/pl/113/154/s2" role="instruction" style="-uslm-lc:I658141"><num class="fontsize12" value="2">SEC. 2. </num><heading>AMENDMENT TO INTERNATIONAL RELIGIOUS FREEDOM ACT OF 1998.</heading><content style="-uslm-lc:I658120">  Section 2(a)(4) of the International Religious Freedom Act of 1998 (<ref href="/us/usc/t22/s6401/a/4">22 U.S.C. 6401(a)(4)</ref>) <amendingAction type="amend">is amended</amendingAction> in the fourth sentence by <amendingAction type="insert">inserting</amendingAction> “<quotedText>desecration of cemeteries,</quotedText>” after “<quotedText>confiscations of property,</quotedText>”.</content></section>
