<summary-text><![CDATA[<p><b>Department of Defense Software Management Improvement Act of 2017</b></p> <p>This bill modifies Department of Defense (DOD) software devleopment standards to permit the use of open source software. Open source software is software with a source code that any individual can inspect, modify, and enhance. A software contractor must release source code and related technical data for such software in a public repository approved by DOD. DOD shall apply open source licenses to existing custom-developed computer software and release related source code and technical data into the repository.</p>]]></summary-text>
