<officialTitle class="centered fontsize8" style="-uslm-lc:I665511">To amend the International Religious Freedom Act of 1998 to include the desecration of cemeteries among the many forms of violations of the right to religious freedom.<?GPOvSpace 08?></officialTitle>
</longTitle>
<enactingFormula style="-uslm-lc:I650120">  Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa­tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,</enactingFormula>
<section id="d147582e62" identifier="/us/bill/113/hr/4028/s1" style="-uslm-lc:I650146"><num value="1">SECTION 1. </num><heading>FINDINGS.</heading><chapeau class="indentUp0 firstIndent1 fontsize10" style="-uslm-lc:I650120">  Congress finds the following:</chapeau><paragraph class="indentUp1 firstIndent1 fontsize10" id="d147582e68" identifier="/us/bill/113/hr/4028/s1/1" style="-uslm-lc:I650122"><num style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="1">(1) </num><content>Cemeteries are sacred sites that are of great spiritual, cultural, and historical significance to many religious and ethnic groups.</content></paragraph><paragraph class="indentUp1 firstIndent1 fontsize10" id="d147582e72" identifier="/us/bill/113/hr/4028/s1/2" style="-uslm-lc:I650122"><num style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="2">(2) </num><content>Congress is committed to protecting and preserving the heritage and sacred sites of national, religious, and ethnic groups, which includes cemeteries in the United States and abroad.</content></paragraph><paragraph class="indentUp1 firstIndent1 fontsize10" id="d147582e76" identifier="/us/bill/113/hr/4028/s1/3" style="-uslm-lc:I650122"><num style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="3">(3) </num><content>Cemeteries around the world have and continue to be defaced or destroyed as a direct result of their affiliation with a particular religious or spiritual group.</content></paragraph><paragraph class="indentUp1 firstIndent1 fontsize10" id="d147582e80" identifier="/us/bill/113/hr/4028/s1/4" style="-uslm-lc:I650122"><num style="-uslm-lc:emspace2" value="4">(4) </num><content>Such attacks constitute an assault on the fundamental right to freedom of religion, and are especially egregious when sponsored or tolerated by the local or national governments in the countries in which such offenses occur.</content></paragraph></section>
<section id="d147582e85" identifier="/us/bill/113/hr/4028/s2" role="instruction" style="-uslm-lc:I650141"><num value="2">SEC. 2. </num><heading>AMENDMENT TO INTERNATIONAL RELIGIOUS FREEDOM ACT OF 1998.</heading><content style="-uslm-lc:I650120">  Section 2(a)(4) of the International Religious Freedom Act of 1998 (<ref href="/us/usc/t22/s6401/a/4">22 U.S.C. 6401(a)(4)</ref>) <amendingAction type="amend">is amended</amendingAction> in the fourth sentence by <amendingAction type="insert">inserting</amendingAction> “<quotedText>desecration of cemeteries,</quotedText>” after “<quotedText>confiscations of property,</quotedText>”.</content></section>
