RES. 359</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20250731">July 31, 2025</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S411">Mr. Marshall</sponsor> (for himself and <cosponsor name-id="S347">Mr. Moran</cosponsor>) submitted the following resolution; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSJU00">Committee on the Judiciary</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>RESOLUTION</legis-type><official-title display="yes">Honoring the life of Undersheriff Brandon Gaede and expressing condolences to his family.</official-title></form><preamble><whereas><text>Whereas Brandon Gaede was a brave law enforcement officer who sacrificed his life to keep his local Kansas community safe;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Brandon Gaede was born to Eric Gaede and Dena Britton in 1995 in Colby, Kansas;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Brandon Gaede attended Colby High School, where he excelled as a student-athlete, finding success in football, wrestling, and track;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas, immediately following his graduation from high school, Mr. Gaede entered a career of service as a law enforcement officer, driven by his unwavering dedication to protecting others;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Brandon Gaede began as a correctional officer with the Thomas County Sheriff’s Office, while simultaneously pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice at Colby Community College;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas, after earning his associate of science degree, Brandon Gaede began working as a sheriff’s deputy in Phillips County, where his leadership and commitment quickly set him apart;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Brandon Gaede attended and graduated from the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center, where he served as president of the 247th basic training class, a testament to the respect he earned among his peers;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Brandon Gaede quickly rose through the ranks of the Phillips County Sheriff’s Office, earning a promotion to sergeant in 2023 and to undersheriff a year later;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas, during this time, he became a loving husband to Karlye Stephen and a father to 3 beautiful children, Axel, Otto, and Emilie;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas, on June 27, 2025, Brandon Gaede lost his life in the line of duty, while attempting to take a suspect into custody;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas Brandon Gaede was and remains a true American hero whose courage, character, and unwavering commitment to others have left an indelible mark; and</text></whereas><whereas commented="no"><text>Whereas Mr. Gaede's legacy will continue to inspire his family, community, and a grateful nation: Now, therefore, be it</text></whereas></preamble><resolution-body><section id="S1" display-inline="yes-display-inline" section-type="undesignated-section"><text>That the Senate—</text><paragraph id="id13b9378d2af14d3a9e70cc4e782619e8"><enum>(1)</enum><text>highly respects and appreciates all that Undersheriff Brandon Gaede did to protect and serve his Kansas community;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id2783790e5d6147b391cea64e8b9151d8"><enum>(2)</enum><text>offers condolences to the family of Brandon Gaede;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="idebeabe71bd304cddbab19bff7f76dce0"><enum>(3)</enum><text>pays tribute to Mr. Gaede's noble sacrifice in the line of duty; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="idaf38c424387f4f63b403a7374660d764"><enum>(4)</enum><text>calls on all levels of government to support the family of this fallen officer.</text></paragraph></section></resolution-body></resolution>
