RES. 297</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20250624">June 24, 2025</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S404">Mr. Scott of Florida</sponsor> (for himself and <cosponsor name-id="S439">Mrs. Moody</cosponsor>) submitted the following resolution; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSJU00">Committee on the Judiciary</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>RESOLUTION</legis-type><official-title display="yes">Commemorating the passage of 4 years since the tragic building collapse in Surfside, Florida, on June 24, 2021.</official-title></form><preamble><whereas><text>Whereas June 24, 2025, marks 4 years since portions of the Champlain Towers South condominium building in Surfside, Florida, catastrophically collapsed; and</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas, in the aftermath of the devastating collapse—</text><paragraph id="id3196f4137ba046a681362708a739835e"><enum>(1)</enum><text>one of the largest rescue and recovery operations in the history of the United States commenced to locate scores of residents who were unaccounted for and believed to be in the collapsed building;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="idfc520d3f81cd4eef8661f2562849a9cd"><enum>(2)</enum><text>first responders from across Florida immediately answered the call of duty, including firefighters, uniformed police officers, rescue and recovery crews, emergency medical technicians, physicians, nurses, and others rushing to save the lives of individuals trapped in the building;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id098a263aaab942f29f0982b053ea8c6d"><enum>(3)</enum><text>international rescue crews and emergency support organizations from Israel and Mexico responded to the site to aid in the search and recovery efforts;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id2bdceab8880b46799a3370116b72f158"><enum>(4)</enum><text>National Urban Search and Rescue Response System task forces from Florida, Virginia, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey, and emergency specialists from California, deployed to Surfside, Florida, to provide critical support;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id2b9aa27228d24401a654809dc9e22acc"><enum>(5)</enum><text>teams worked tirelessly around the clock to rescue survivors and recover the remains of individuals killed in the tragic collapse; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id63e94556ffe0497795a2d2c44948de17"><enum>(6)</enum><text>on June 30, 2021, the National Institute of Standards and Technology announced it would launch a formal investigation into the cause of the collapse: Now, therefore, be it</text></paragraph></whereas></preamble><resolution-body><section display-inline="yes-display-inline" section-type="undesignated-section" id="S1"><text>That the Senate—</text><paragraph id="iddd0466552fc846248490056d5b3d5503"><enum>(1)</enum><text>commemorates the passage of 4 years since the tragic building collapse in Surfside, Florida, on June 24, 2021;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id7F6F29F33B7B48B89D345C97156256A9"><enum>(2)</enum><text>honors the survivors and the 98 lives lost in the collapse of the Champlain Towers South condominium building and offers heartfelt condolences to the families, loved ones, and friends of the victims;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id2486f4a469454175bd8e36db74b6980e"><enum>(3)</enum><text>commends the bravery and selfless service demonstrated by the local, State, national, and international teams of first responders deployed in the aftermath of the collapse; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="idb5db98928dbc4c3ba752f93163b03d5d"><enum>(4)</enum><text>expresses support for the survivors and community of Surfside, Florida. </text></paragraph></section></resolution-body></resolution>
