RES. 241</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20250521">May 21, 2025</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S423">Mr. Ricketts</sponsor> (for himself, <cosponsor name-id="S411">Mr. Marshall</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S357">Mrs. Fischer</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="S287">Mr. Cornyn</cosponsor>) submitted the following resolution; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSAF00">Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>RESOLUTION</legis-type><official-title display="yes">Expressing support for the designation of May 2025 as <quote>National Beef Month</quote> to recognize the important role cattle play in the United States, and to consumers.</official-title></form><preamble><whereas><text>Whereas cattle production accounts for largest share of cash receipts for agricultural commodities in the United States at $88,400,000,000;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the United States produces the most beef in the world, accounting for 19 percent of global production;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the United States raises more than 92,000,000 head of cattle accounting for 6 percent of global production;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the United States has the largest inventory of fed cattle in the world;</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas beef provides 25 grams of high-quality protein per 3-ounce serving; and</text></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas beef contains essential nutrients which help the body convert food into energy and support immune health and brain function, including—</text><paragraph id="id95770312e7214a18813d0f2ce248550c"><enum>(1)</enum><text>iron, which helps with oxygen absorption;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id662dcf4be14b48c7ae8e7c5819873214"><enum>(2)</enum><text>choline, which supports nervous system development;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="ide7d0d605c87a4f1184d69b937d288173"><enum>(3)</enum><text>vitamins B6 and B12, which maintains brain function;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="idaa865e31eec140db82a91d09665d6e44"><enum>(4)</enum><text>phosphorous, which builds bones and teeth;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="idc7556c692cdd4d3e96ca5711c8345898"><enum>(5)</enum><text>zinc, which maintains immune system function;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id3e1821e6d14a4af299a1eff3930ab78e"><enum>(6)</enum><text>niacin, which supports energy production and metabolism;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id3995428b3e4b4f6f8051e368e59e237a"><enum>(7)</enum><text>riboflavin, which converts food into energy; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id604ea688e55646a8a7ee5f33ff5ad582"><enum>(8)</enum><text>selenium, which promotes cell health: Now, therefore, be it</text></paragraph></whereas></preamble><resolution-body><section id="S1" display-inline="yes-display-inline" section-type="undesignated-section"><text>That the Senate—</text><paragraph id="idb3bc98cf0ba94b88a08248997b8a18f4"><enum>(1)</enum><text>supports the designation of May 2025 as <quote>National Beef Month</quote>; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id4ca6171fca724838ab913571ea97f590"><enum>(2)</enum><text>recognizes that—</text><subparagraph id="ida01b72a8cdaa4e38aef45d00414649d6"><enum>(A)</enum><text>historically, cattle production has contributed about 17 percent of the $520,000,000,000 in total cash receipts for agricultural commodities;</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="ida1fc4ecb579c4210b7864f7efb9671ab"><enum>(B)</enum><text>the United States is also the largest consumer of beef in the world, primarily high-value, grain-fed beef; and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="id093f0c3a46aa4c799d6b477f417c7475"><enum>(C)</enum><text>beef is an excellent source of nutritious protein.</text></subparagraph></paragraph></section></resolution-body></resolution>
