<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>119th CONGRESS</congress><session>1st Session</session><legis-num>S. 989</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20250312">March 12, 2025</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S385">Ms. Cortez Masto</sponsor> (for herself, <cosponsor name-id="S323">Mr. Risch</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="S410">Ms. Lummis</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSFI00">Committee on Finance</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to provide that income received by a regulated investment company from precious metals shall be treated as qualifying income.</official-title></form><legis-body display-enacting-clause="yes-display-enacting-clause"><section section-type="section-one" id="id733fa568ede74a45bbc26824ba7fdba8"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Precious Metals Parity Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="id140ab076823a4339a7d34fdce708f8c7"><enum>2.</enum><header>Treatment of income received by regulated investment companies from precious metals</header><subsection id="idDF351BA887374E2182E735CDA5278B24"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text><external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/26/851">Section 851(b)(2)(A)</external-xref> of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 is amended—</text><paragraph id="idD42E6187894645DABEDDE70AC750B9B1"><enum>(1)</enum><text>by striking <quote>or foreign currencies</quote> and inserting <quote>, foreign currencies, or precious metals,</quote>, and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id1024E3FA89704308A7B2CC4A379A91E8"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by striking <quote>or currencies</quote> and inserting <quote>currencies, or precious metals</quote>.</text></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="id9A5A3BC38E3E40218E2BBF691C7EF2E9"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Effective date</header><text>The amendments made by this section shall apply to taxable years beginning after the date of the enactment of this Act.</text></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
