<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>119th CONGRESS</congress><session>1st Session</session><legis-num>S. 950</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20250311" legis-day="20250310">March 11 (legislative day, March 10), 2025</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S406">Mr. Kelly</sponsor> (for himself, <cosponsor name-id="S408">Mr. Hickenlooper</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S324">Mrs. Shaheen</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S432">Mr. Gallego</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S394">Ms. Smith</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="S390">Mr. Van Hollen</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSEG00">Committee on Energy and Natural Resources</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To ensure that the Forest Service is fully staffed, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body><section id="S1" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Save Our Forests Act of 2025</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id522796078da048fab70bbafa7c37af3c"><enum>2.</enum><header>Definitions</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">In this Act:</text><paragraph id="id368abe4612354fb09dd7ecb8a0bcd3f7"><enum>(1)</enum><header>National forest system</header><text>The term <term>National Forest System</term> has the meaning given the term in section 11(a) of the Forest and Rangeland Renewable Resources Planning Act of 1974 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/16/1609">16 U.S.C. 1609(a)</external-xref>). </text></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idf1e11157971f4fac8e9e7c1a85b6a3d7"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Secretary</header><text>The term <quote>Secretary</quote> means the Secretary of Agriculture.</text></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id85d6b21c55cf4fc08c82dca5cc4737a5"><enum>(3)</enum><header>Service</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The term <quote>Service</quote> means the Forest Service.</text></paragraph></section><section commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id3aa1986bf7e8443bb0317577d4a2063a"><enum>3.</enum><header>Forest Service staffing and personnel</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">As soon as practicable after the date of enactment of this Act, using funds previously appropriated to the Secretary for such purposes, the Secretary shall—</text><paragraph id="idb679d8bc092a486e8ff6313f7661890c"><enum>(1)</enum><text>increase staffing necessary to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of National Forest System land to meet the needs of present and future generations; and </text></paragraph><paragraph id="idccf0349ea8734126bb4320bf78a226bf"><enum>(2)</enum><text>reinstate any individuals who were involuntarily removed or otherwise terminated from employment with the Service during the period beginning on January 20, 2025, and ending on February 25, 2025.</text></paragraph></section><section commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id4a234c4c61e246729b4c028e56928132"><enum>4.</enum><header>Continuation of authorized Forest Service projects</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">The Secretary shall have the authority to continue to carry out any Service project for which funds are authorized or appropriated under—</text><paragraph id="id733ba6c8f6924b4396b02147bfab8a7b"><enum>(1)</enum><text>the Federal Lands Recreation Enhancement Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/16/6801">16 U.S.C. 6801 et seq.</external-xref>);</text></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id072cefa4d6a24e8bbd97740f1749e538"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">the Great American Outdoors Act (<external-xref legal-doc="public-law" parsable-cite="pl/116/152">Public Law 116–152</external-xref>; 134 Stat. 682);</text></paragraph><paragraph id="idcd19316a41bf47cdb6ea3a44b1f794de"><enum>(3)</enum><text>the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (<external-xref legal-doc="public-law" parsable-cite="pl/117/58">Public Law 117–58</external-xref>; 135 Stat. 429); or</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id9ea16a19c5224e73b5e5a37de90c5d2a"><enum>(4)</enum><text>Public Law 117–169 (commonly known as the <quote>Inflation Reduction Act of 2022</quote>) (136 Stat. 1818).</text></paragraph></section></legis-body></bill>
