<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>119th CONGRESS</congress><session>1st Session</session><legis-num>S. 941</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20250311" legis-day="20250310">March 11 (legislative day, March 10), 2025</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S431">Mr. Curtis</sponsor> (for himself and <cosponsor name-id="S346">Mr. Lee</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSEG00">Committee on Energy and Natural Resources</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To prohibit natural asset companies from entering into any agreement with respect to land in the State of Utah or natural assets on or in land in the State of Utah.</official-title></form><legis-body style="OLC" display-enacting-clause="yes-display-enacting-clause" id="HB67A0935E23C4D67A55333939D3F45D8"><section section-type="section-one" id="H2C60916B9D17423CB8343B5B5E5E7AD4"><enum>1.</enum><header>Prohibition of natural asset companies from entering into certain agreements</header><subsection commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id36afc4680cf048fc987f7adbd5d88c0c"><enum>(a)</enum><header display-inline="yes-display-inline">Definition of natural asset company</header><text>In this section, the term <quote>natural asset company</quote> means—</text><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id129885795c6f43afb278c97e75da059b"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">a corporation that—</text><subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idef09052e836345fcb4f9b9da86297924"><enum>(A)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">holds the rights to the ecological performance of a defined area; and </text></subparagraph><subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id9819deeabc3b4c63903ec12b14f206ee"><enum>(B)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">has the authority to manage the defined area for conservation, restoration, or sustainable management; or</text></subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="id0de421b85e7b42dfabaf10d882cdf4a5"><enum>(2)</enum><text>a company or organization that is substantially similar to a corporation described in paragraph (1).</text></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="HEDE69DF4C42A4FBE84959AAD376A4925"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Prohibition</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">A natural asset company may not enter into any agreement with respect to—</text><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id604646b2d12a44038eecd4140a117896"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">land in the State of Utah; or </text></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id6cf7f443ccb14cebbfc95c0e502843a7"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">natural assets on or in land in the State of Utah.</text></paragraph></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
