which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSCM00">Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To direct the Federal Communications Commission to evaluate and consider the impact of the telecommunications network equipment supply chain on the deployment of universal service, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body display-enacting-clause="yes-display-enacting-clause"><section section-type="section-one" id="id6785fe50-1b60-4b5b-8c35-dca33ec98a10" changed="not-changed"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Network Equipment Transparency Act</short-title></quote> or the <quote><short-title>NET Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section section-type="subsequent-section" id="id6332345e-6a2d-4378-9ea3-532449f0d838" changed="not-changed"><enum>2.</enum><header>Telecommunications supply chain consideration</header><subsection commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id6ffb55b715374f328e15d49081019681" changed="not-changed"><enum>(a)</enum><header display-inline="yes-display-inline">In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 13(b) of the Communications Act of 1934 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/47/163">47 U.S.C. 163(b)</external-xref>) is amended—</text><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id82b6209761ac43af922394268ddc3126" changed="not-changed"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">by redesignating paragraphs (3), (4), and (5) as paragraphs (4), (5), and (6), respectively; and</text></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id33e91f29caf24c74a64f60babe907d68" changed="not-changed"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">by inserting after paragraph (2) the following:</text><quoted-block style="OLC" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idd5c1346c-0796-43ed-bb07-48a8f3c08646" changed="not-changed"><paragraph id="id5b827c9b-1a45-4b6a-b514-00a42f36bc2d" changed="not-changed"><enum>(3)</enum><text>assess, to the extent that data is available to the Commission, how the availability of network equipment may have impacted the deployment of advanced telecommunications capability during the applicable reporting period;</text></paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="id41710d506dd54f0ea8f1130667a18f4e" changed="not-changed"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Rule of construction</header><text>Nothing in the amendments made by subsection (a) shall be construed to require any provider of advanced telecommunications capability to provide the Federal Communications Commission more information than was required for the purpose of section 13 of the Communications Act of 1934 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/47/163">47 U.S.C. 163</external-xref>) as in effect on the day before the date of enactment of this Act.</text></subsection><subsection commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idf2df3107dfb44b91a1588e3d3cda63bd" changed="not-changed"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Technical and conforming amendments</header><text>Section 13 of the Communications Act of 1934 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/47/163">47 U.S.C. 163</external-xref>), as amended by subsection (a), is amended—</text><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idc61df484c77b4993a039d57bdae34d7c" changed="not-changed"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in subsection (b)—</text><subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id61201e417ce842b8888f0a0214925230" changed="not-changed"><enum>(A)</enum><text>in paragraph (5), as so redesignated, by striking <quote>(3)</quote> and inserting <quote>(4)</quote>; and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id3cd3fde4dd194e5f8d1a28dee14efc2b" changed="not-changed"><enum>(B)</enum><text>in paragraph (6), as so redesignated, by striking <quote>(4)</quote> and inserting <quote>(5)</quote>;</text></subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id089fd76e0b8141879c9dcef094497f44" changed="not-changed"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in subsection (c), by striking <quote>(b)(4)</quote> and inserting <quote>(b)(5)</quote>; and</text></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id138a9db839d94af181e977d1aed423af" changed="not-changed"><enum>(3)</enum><text>in subsection (d)(3), by striking <quote>(b)(3)</quote> and inserting <quote>(b)(4)</quote>.</text></paragraph></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
