<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>119th CONGRESS</congress><session>1st Session</session><legis-num>S. 2807</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20250916">September 16, 2025</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S287">Mr. Cornyn</sponsor> (for himself, <cosponsor name-id="S361">Ms. Hirono</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S288">Ms. Murkowski</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S418">Mr. Fetterman</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S404">Mr. Scott of Florida</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="S427">Mr. Schiff</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSVA00">Committee on Veterans' Affairs</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To amend title 38, United States Code, to modify the applicability of the authority to reconsider decisions of the Secretary of Veterans Affairs or the Secretary of the Army to inter the remains or honor the memory of a person in a national cemetery, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body><section id="id491ff0cbb4c14021b5fcfcb69035553e" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Restoring the Sanctity of Public Entombments, Cemeteries, and Tributes Act of 2025</short-title></quote> or the <quote><short-title>RESPECT Act of 2025</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id6ca7eab32f464d3e8068d73fbe581b84"><enum>2.</enum><header>Applicability of authority to reconsider decisions to inter the remains or honor the memory of a person in a national cemetery</header><subsection commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id1b73eae04e164ef7b1471dd258edd163"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 2411 of title 38, United States Code, is amended—</text><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id7f173fd685e24745a111c9662a12e4b5"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in subsection (d)(1), by inserting <quote>made on or after June 18, 1973,</quote> after <quote>reconsider a decision</quote>; and</text></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id5d15103b1fb842a0b894eb4d184c54ff"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in subsections (b)(4)(A), (b)(5)(A), (d)(2)(A)(ii), and (e)(1)(B), by striking <quote>to be a tier III sex offender for purposes of the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/34/20901">34 U.S.C. 20901 et seq.</external-xref>)</quote> each place it appears and inserting <quote>to meet the definition of a tier III sex offender under section 111 of the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/34/20911">34 U.S.C. 20911</external-xref>)</quote>. </text></paragraph></subsection><subsection commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idbdb2d75f67604c7c81399d05790eefed"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Conforming repeal</header><text>Section 2 of the Alicia Dawn Koehl Respect for National Cemeteries Act (<external-xref legal-doc="public-law" parsable-cite="pl/113/65">Public Law 113–65</external-xref>) is amended by striking subsection (c).</text></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
