        <official-title>To amend title 10, United States Code, to designate the Assistant Secretary
            of Defense for Cyber Policy as principal staff assistant to the Secretary of Defense on
            matters within the responsibility of the Assistant Secretary, and for other
            purposes.</official-title>

            <enum>1.</enum>
            <header>Designation of Assistant Secretary of Defense for Cyber Policy as principal
                staff assistant</header>
 <text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 138(b)(8) of title 10, United States Code, is amended—</text>
            <paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idfc4b61aa401049a2b8820c8f1008b1b8">
                <enum>(1)</enum>
 <text display-inline="yes-display-inline">by inserting <quote>(A)</quote> before the first sentence; and</text>
            </paragraph>
            <paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id74e3ead56199464abc3a5723d07bf0d1">
                <enum>(2)</enum>
 <text>by adding at the end the following new subparagraph:</text> <quoted-block style="OLC" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idfbcab823f41f469fae3d8f441c4a153f"> <subparagraph id="id856e36d0ffce4f7bbec290c1b36e03a8" indent="up2"> <enum>(B)</enum> <text>Subject to the authority, direction, and control of the Secretary of Defense, the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Cyber Policy—</text>
                        <clause id="id5ab616c63973415daccff040f4a5c775">
                            <enum>(i)</enum>
 <text>shall serve as a principal staff assistant to the Secretary of Defense on matters within the responsibility of the Assistant Secretary;</text>
                        </clause>
                        <clause id="iddf05037c42c74b84a566adbb41f3ff28">
                            <enum>(ii)</enum>
 <text>shall report directly to the Secretary without intervening authority; and</text>
                        </clause>
                        <clause id="idc91a93e999d84aac8bae8b209c6aa7b5">
                            <enum>(iii)</enum>
 <text>may communicate views on matters within the responsibility of the Assistant Secretary directly to the Secretary without obtaining the approval or concurrence of any other official within the Department of Defense.</text>
