<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>119th CONGRESS</congress><session>1st Session</session><legis-num>S. 2167</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20250625" legis-day="20250624">June 25 (legislative day, June 24), 2025</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S408">Mr. Hickenlooper</sponsor> (for himself, <cosponsor name-id="S396">Mrs. Blackburn</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="S229">Mrs. Murray</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSHR00">Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To permit nurse practitioners and physician assistants to furnish necessary services, appliances, and supplies to individuals receiving medical benefits for illnesses.</official-title></form><legis-body display-enacting-clause="yes-display-enacting-clause"><section section-type="section-one" id="idba3f2263039a433b926c4b00ed2fe1f2"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Health Care for Energy Workers Act of 2025</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" section-type="subsequent-section" id="idbf0c6a66593c430f973b218fb8a78227"><enum>2.</enum><header display-inline="yes-display-inline">Expansion of authority to furnish medical benefits</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 3629 of the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act of 2000 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/7384t">42 U.S.C. 7384t</external-xref>) is amended—</text><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id925694ac3c864d91b1a819ae6e27eb0e"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">by redesignating subsections (c) through (f) as subsections (d) through (g), respectively; and</text></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id10a9cca95312450b88b0cb1a7c225cc2"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by inserting after subsection (b) the following new subsection (c):</text><quoted-block style="OLC" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id1783058C573A45FAA7029164AB6EC4E2"><subsection id="idc34a191cca2e4876a1e9077f5137df8e"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Orders by nurse practitioners and physician assistants</header><text>For purposes of subsections (a) and (b), a nurse practitioner or physician assistant, acting within the scope of their practice under State law and in accordance with such regulations and instructions as the President deems necessary, may prescribe, recommend, or order services, appliances, and supplies for an individual receiving medical benefits under this section for an illness.</text></subsection><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph></section></legis-body></bill>
