        <official-title>To amend title XVIII of the Social Security Act to strengthen the drug
            pricing reforms in the Inflation Reduction Act.</official-title>

            <header>Short title</header>
 <text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Strengthening Medicare And Reducing Taxpayer Prices Act</short-title></quote> or the <quote><short-title>SMART Prices Act</short-title></quote>.</text>

            <header>Improvements to the Medicare Drug Price Negotiation Program</header>
            <subsection commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id8ECE1A86CF9B48C5B0F3423AEA131234">
                <enum>(a)</enum>
                <header display-inline="yes-display-inline">Acceleration of the selection of
                    negotiation-Eligible drugs</header>
 <text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 1192(a) of the Social Security Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/1320f-1">42 U.S.C. 1320f–1(a)</external-xref>) is amended—</text>

                    <enum>(1)</enum>
 <text>in paragraph (3)—</text> <subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id4dd041c7d6894271934b45567bbbedd3"> <enum>(A)</enum> <text display-inline="yes-display-inline">by striking <quote>2028, 15 negotiation-eligible drugs</quote> and inserting <quote>2028 or a subsequent year, 50 negotiation-eligible drugs</quote>; and</text>
                    </subparagraph>

                    <enum>(2)</enum>
 <text>in subparagraph (B)(ii), by striking <quote>11 years</quote> and inserting <quote>3 years</quote>.</text>

                <enum>(c)</enum>
                <header>Improvement to the ceiling for maximum fair price</header>
 <text>Section 1194(c)(3) of the Social Security Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/1320f-3">42 U.S.C. 1320f–3(c)(3)</external-xref>) is amended—</text>

                    <enum>(1)</enum>
 <text>in subparagraph (A), by striking <quote>75 percent</quote> and inserting <quote>76 percent</quote>;</text>
                </paragraph>
                <paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="ida044244e104744e088e2359322ea91ab">
                    <enum>(2)</enum>
 <text display-inline="yes-display-inline">in subparagraph (B), by striking <quote>65 percent</quote> and inserting <quote>55 percent</quote>; and</text>
                </paragraph>

                    <enum>(3)</enum>
 <text>in subparagraph (C), by striking <quote>40 percent</quote> and inserting <quote>30 percent</quote>.</text>
                </paragraph>

                <enum>(d)</enum>
                <header>Effective date</header>
 <text>The amendments made by this section shall apply with respect to initial price applicability years (as defined in section 1191(b) of the Social Security Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/1320f">42 U.S.C. 1320f(b)</external-xref>)) beginning with initial price applicability year 2028.</text>
            </subsection>
