<official-title>To increase the penalties for various violations of Federal law.</official-title>

<section id="S1" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Defending Our Government’s Electronic Data: Bolstering Responsible Oversight and Safeguards Act</short-title></quote> or the <quote><short-title>DOGE BROS Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section> <section commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id0312405ece26413d8ca65e3ab9a0a83b"><enum>2.</enum><header>Records maintained on individuals</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 552a(i) of title 5, United States Code, is amended—</text> 
<paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id00023d6ce5484318b0008a3b0905253b"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in paragraph (1), by striking <quote>$5,000</quote> and inserting <quote>$30,000</quote>;</text></paragraph> <paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idad25995c005b4e36be43bea2f7940c0c"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in paragraph (2), by striking <quote>$5,000</quote> and inserting <quote>$30,000</quote>; and</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id8ea22355e9824e49804d6c2660ae21bb"><enum>(3)</enum><text>in paragraph (3), by striking <quote>$5,000</quote> and inserting <quote>$30,000</quote>.</text></paragraph></section> <section id="ide923446fe7c0476a9b9b85d4280b5782"><enum>3.</enum><header>Obtainment of information from any department or agency of the United States using a computer without authorization</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 1030 of title 18, United States Code, is amended—</text> 
<paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="ide3edb773f385444aa891bfedaddd5988"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">in subsection (c)(2)—</text> <subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="yes-display-inline" id="id572b6d3b27464641be1c10466afbee70"><enum>(A)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">by striking <quote>(2)(A) except as provided in subparagraph (B)</quote> and inserting the following:</text>

<paragraph id="idaf416ce81e10402d87a34c9178b9605b"><enum>(2)</enum><text>subject to subsection (k)—</text> <subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id41a849e2d696426bbff08c8071a1ef17"><enum>(A)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">except as provided in subparagraphs (B) and (C)</text></subparagraph></paragraph><after-quoted-block>; and</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></subparagraph> 
<subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idb63b5919900b45c68180b4b4fe227057"><enum>(B)</enum><text>in subparagraphs (B) and (C), by moving the margins 2 ems to the right; and</text></subparagraph></paragraph> <paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id15360580c865413db4b24d004f843596"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by adding at the end the following:</text>

<subsection id="idbfb1c8a2b59044c698515f735bf3e32e"><enum>(k)</enum><header>Higher maximum fine for individuals who obtain information from United States departments or agencies</header><text>In the case of an offense under subsection (a)(2)(B) committed by an individual, subsection (c)(2) shall be applied by substituting <quote>a fine of not more than $750,000</quote> for <quote>a fine under this title</quote> each place it appears.</text></subsection><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph></section> <section id="H51411F8119774DC3A1C39CD2B86B850F"><enum>4.</enum><header>Increase in fines for unauthorized disclosures of information held by Social Security Administration or Department of Health and Human Services</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 1106(a)(1) of the Social Security Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/1306">42 U.S.C. 1306(a)(1)</external-xref>) is amended by striking <quote>$10,000</quote> and inserting <quote>$25,000</quote>.</text></section> 
<section commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" section-type="subsequent-section" id="id7dd0ddedb41e43799d6d7ba3553f2101"><enum>5.</enum><header display-inline="yes-display-inline">Increase in fines for unauthorized disclosures of taxpayer information</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Paragraphs (1), (2), (3), (4), and (5) of <external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/26/7213">section 7213(a)</external-xref> of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 are each amended by striking <quote>$5,000</quote> each place it appears and inserting <quote>$25,000</quote>.</text></section> <section commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" section-type="subsequent-section" id="idb5ec133e005d4af7a40c806770f10148"><enum>6.</enum><header>Wrongful disclosure of census data</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 214 of title 13, United States Code, is amended by striking <quote>$5,000</quote> and inserting <quote>$25,000</quote>.</text></section>
