<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>119th CONGRESS</congress><session>1st Session</session><legis-num>S. 1747</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20250513">May 13, 2025</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S429">Mr. Banks</sponsor> introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSAS00">Committee on Armed Services</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To promote the use of the Classical Learning Test (CLT) at military service academies and Federally-run schools.</official-title></form><legis-body><section id="S1" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Promoting Classical Learning Act of 2025</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="ida2d8b48a97834c5ba6646c13d0d4cfbd"><enum>2.</enum><header>Requirement for military service academies to accept the Classical Learning Test</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">The Secretary of Defense shall ensure that each of the Service Academies (as that term is defined in section 347(d) of title 10, United States Code) allows applicants to submit scores from the Classical Learning Test (CLT), SAT, or ACT as part of their application for admission.</text></section><section commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" section-type="subsequent-section" id="ide408ba63908e4e848544cd759d9ac4e6"><enum>3.</enum><header>Requirement for Federally-run secondary schools to administer the Classical Learning Test</header><subsection commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id469340405ae04791b95cca0fbc5626ac"><enum>(a)</enum><header display-inline="yes-display-inline">DODEA schools</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Director of the Department of Defense Education Activity shall require schools operated by the Activity to administer the CLT to students in the eleventh grade.</text></subsection><subsection commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="ide02a2ae1dcc34f6997f88e0fea0fdd0d"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Tribally controlled schools and BIE-Operated schools</header><text>The Director of the Bureau of Indian Education shall require schools funded or operated by the Bureau of Indian Education to administer the CLT to students in the eleventh grade.</text></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
