 criminal history records, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body display-enacting-clause="yes-display-enacting-clause"><section section-type="section-one" id="S1"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Criminal History Access Act of 2025</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id72971f5364e8485bab4783a17d936bcb"><enum>2.</enum><header>Definitions</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">In this Act:</text><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id570ade54d13f42489dc50d8408484bc9"><enum>(1)</enum><header>Peace officer standards and training agency</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The term <term>peace officer standards and training agency</term> means an agency of a State with the statutory authority under State law to set standards for the hiring, training, ethical conduct, and retention of the law enforcement officers of the State through certification, licensing, or other similar qualification process.</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id8e7011624fa74848af775158bbc75904"><enum>(2)</enum><header>State</header><text>The term <term>State</term> means each of the several States of the United States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Guam, American Samoa, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and any territory or possession of the United States.</text></paragraph></section><section id="id873a8c61a0fd455eb0cb28ea64b5b8bc"><enum>3.</enum><header>Amendments</header><subsection id="id08ef6013d8524cd3854e5741cf63949f"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Title 28</header><text>Section 534(e) of title 28, United States Code, is amended—</text><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id292ea15989fe4c49bea04cf504b7c90e"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in paragraph (1), by striking <quote>and</quote>;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id8f2f6ca939ab40989511b27aa409d63a"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in paragraph (2), by striking the period and inserting <quote>; and</quote>; and</text></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idfd38d6c140a6437ea6b6aae288ad509a"><enum>(3)</enum><text>by adding at the end the following:</text><quoted-block style="OLC" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id0C6C62AE2BA64C359F86CEC8B4078D16"><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="ida5d074d2a8d4417e8c454d7173023721"><enum>(3)</enum><text>peace officer standards training agencies, as defined in section 2 of the <short-title>Criminal History Access Act of 2025</short-title></text></paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="ida3959e641a7541a58a735b9f9890565c"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Regulations</header><text>Not later than 180 days after the date of enactment of this Act, the Attorney General shall amend section part 20 of title 28, Code of Federal Regulations, as may be necessary to carry out the provisions of this Act.</text></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
