<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>119th CONGRESS</congress><session>1st Session</session><legis-num>S. 1472</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20250410">April 10, 2025</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S316">Mr. Whitehouse</sponsor> (for himself, <cosponsor name-id="S341">Mr. Blumenthal</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S252">Ms. Collins</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S388">Ms. Hassan</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S363">Mr. King</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S369">Mr. Markey</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S364">Mr. Murphy</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S259">Mr. Reed</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="S324">Mrs. Shaheen</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="S366">Ms. Warren</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSEG00">Committee on Energy and Natural Resources</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To prohibit oil and gas leasing on the Outer Continental Shelf off the coast of New England.</official-title></form><legis-body style="OLC" display-enacting-clause="yes-display-enacting-clause" id="HC353DFE257FB4653A7387A4868099726"><section section-type="section-one" id="H418895A809544637BA013854842B7DEB"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>New England Coastal Protection Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section section-type="subsequent-section" id="HCAB4D6066BB4426CB613B1A478089092"><enum>2.</enum><header>Prohibition of oil and gas leasing on the Outer Continental Shelf off the coast of New England</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 8 of the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/43/1337">43 U.S.C. 1337</external-xref>) is amended by adding at the end the following:</text><quoted-block style="OLC" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HB4B5D89A36BD44AD8B68E42521142880"><subsection id="HC925DC9B099142AF8A6B851EBDB42978"><enum>(q)</enum><header>Prohibition of oil and gas leasing in certain areas of the outer Continental Shelf</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Notwithstanding any other provision of this section or any other law, the Secretary may not issue a lease for the exploration for, or development or production of, oil or natural gas in any area of the outer Continental Shelf off the coast of the State of Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, or Connecticut.</text></subsection><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></section></legis-body></bill>
