<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>119th CONGRESS</congress><session>1st Session</session><legis-num>S. 1440</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20250410">April 10, 2025</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S386">Ms. Duckworth</sponsor> (for herself and <cosponsor name-id="S288">Ms. Murkowski</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSHR00">Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To amend title II of the Public Health Service Act to include as an additional right or privilege of commissioned officers of the Public Health Service (and their beneficiaries) certain leave provided under title 10, United States Code to commissioned officers of the Army (or their beneficiaries).</official-title></form><legis-body display-enacting-clause="yes-display-enacting-clause"><section section-type="section-one" id="idefa5fb5dc9a24f76ad44b06e6d5999e3"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Uniformed Services Leave Parity Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" section-type="subsequent-section" id="id2d686a22365347518c32e01ca04a8c90"><enum>2.</enum><header display-inline="yes-display-inline">Application of leave provisions for members of the Armed Forces to members of the Public Health Service</header><subsection id="HCC07FEE0B6BA48C9B41BC21B0A4418B8"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 221(a) of the Public Health Service Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/213a">42 U.S.C. 213a(a)</external-xref>) is amended by adding at the end the following:</text><quoted-block style="OLC" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HF4A81AB167004270964BE95C3154156A"><paragraph id="H070C59ADAFCE4B7EBF11D78225E8EC03"><enum>(22)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Chapter 40, Leave.</text></paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></subsection><subsection commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HA7097A1F89D94C7CB9EE8A917A57CEBC"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Conforming repeal</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 219 of the Public Health Service Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/210-1">42 U.S.C. 210–1</external-xref>) is repealed. </text></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
