<distribution-code display="yes">II</distribution-code><congress>119th CONGRESS</congress><session>1st Session</session><legis-num>S. 1307</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date date="20250404">April 4, 2025</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="S435">Mr. Sheehy</sponsor> (for himself and <cosponsor name-id="S437">Mr. Justice</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the <committee-name committee-id="SSJU00">Committee on the Judiciary</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title>To allow certain qualified law enforcement officers and retired law enforcement officers to carry concealed firearms to protect children in school zones.</official-title></form><legis-body style="OLC" display-enacting-clause="yes-display-enacting-clause" id="H4BAD6E8D80544F8386A51B8CFEF12681"><section section-type="section-one" id="H13384DFBB3034200923B587C839EB62E"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Police Officers Protecting Children Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="H8CA4CC7133ED4893A003A559D82F3721"><enum>2.</enum><header>Certain qualified law enforcement officers and retired law enforcement officers allowed to carry a concealed firearm, and discharge a firearm, in a school zone</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 922(q) of title 18, United States Code, is amended—</text><paragraph id="HC5EFCB5A62E74DC48D63E769BEC96518"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in paragraph (2)(B)—</text><subparagraph id="HFE8AEE6C8AC4429E9DDFDBD323B5D9FD"><enum>(A)</enum><text>in clause (vi), by striking <quote>; or</quote> and inserting a semicolon; and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="H5C524D27E0AE4D258B7B90561795A24C"><enum>(B)</enum><text>by redesignating clause (vii) as clause (ix) and inserting after clause (vi) the following:</text><quoted-block style="OLC" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H05253B6A65F447C798CF246707C62209"><clause id="HA8F6A89999FB4E17AA9CFF63D5C00254" indent="up1"><enum>(vii)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">by a qualified law enforcement officer, as defined in section 926B, who is authorized under that section to carry a concealed firearm, if the firearm is concealed;</text></clause><clause id="HD8B1A3FD942146AC9FE9BC076A8B84FF" indent="up1"><enum>(viii)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">by a qualified retired law enforcement officer, as defined in section 926C, who is authorized under that section to carry a concealed firearm, if the firearm is concealed; or</text></clause><after-quoted-block>; and</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="H29FB38B69AA04B7C80EA9C1B24E57240"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in paragraph (3)(B)—</text><subparagraph id="H1494527D54D547CEAC9FA4DABFAE8B38"><enum>(A)</enum><text>in clause (iii), by striking <quote>; or</quote> and inserting a semicolon; </text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="HB2FC2E4DC7F5430D82E2FCDC4AE5CE24"><enum>(B)</enum><text>in clause (iv), by striking the period and inserting a semicolon; and</text></subparagraph><subparagraph id="HA43E6A6E6F9547039234908A652E3E5E"><enum>(C)</enum><text>by adding at the end the following:</text><quoted-block style="OLC" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HD391D086F189461289C836B7EDD90557"><clause id="H303EEA514265449D83F524C2E704374E" indent="up1"><enum>(v)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">by a qualified law enforcement officer, as defined in section 926B, who is authorized under that section to carry a concealed firearm; or</text></clause><clause id="H56D4114D23D843B6B96172251D6556C6" indent="up1"><enum>(vi)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">by a qualified retired law enforcement officer, as defined in section 926C, who is authorized under that section to carry a concealed firearm.</text></clause><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></subparagraph></paragraph></section></legis-body></bill>
