RES. 695</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20250910">September 10, 2025</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="M001216">Mr. Mills</sponsor> (for himself, <cosponsor name-id="T000478">Ms. Tenney</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="F000484">Mr. Fine</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="B001298">Mr. Bacon</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="C001133">Mr. Ciscomani</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="W000829">Mr. Wied</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="W000795">Mr. Wilson of South Carolina</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="B001327">Mr. Bresnahan</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="B001291">Mr. Babin</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="R000603">Mr. Rouzer</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="F000469">Mr. Fulcher</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="F000475">Mr. Finstad</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="M001240">Mr. McDowell</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="M001239">Mr. McGuire</cosponsor>) submitted the following resolution; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HGO00">Committee on Oversight and Government Reform</committee-name></action-desc></action><legis-type>RESOLUTION</legis-type><official-title display="yes">Honoring Charlie Kirk following his assassination on September 10, 2025, in Orem, Utah.</official-title></form><preamble><whereas><text>Whereas, on September 10, 2025, a gunman opened fire at a Turning Point USA event hosted by Charlie Kirk, a faith-based conservative spokesman and thought leader, targeting him specifically: Now, therefore, be it</text></whereas></preamble><resolution-body style="traditional" id="H9EE159BE40A544A1949EA4A5166E7121"><section display-inline="yes-display-inline" section-type="undesignated-section" id="HD3E431036C0346489CA2FE98B7029C8E"><enum/><text>That the House of Representatives—</text><paragraph id="H1DA2965F3D574D448C96066FBBED2A8E"><enum>(1)</enum><text>condemns in the strongest possible terms this horrific political assassination, which occurred at Utah Valley University, of Charlie Kirk, on September 10, 2025;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H43C96BEEC5D54082B9805C23DF3F079E"><enum>(2)</enum><text>offers its heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of Charlie Kirk, who was killed in the attack;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="HBCD1837955B04CF5AA1903A76ABB8F27"><enum>(3)</enum><text>recognizes the service of the security team, first responders, and the health care professionals who jumped into action;</text></paragraph><paragraph id="HC3F137C025E74133A6B048D27C5B23D8"><enum>(4)</enum><text>reaffirms the bedrock principle of American democracy and representative government, which is memorialized in the First Amendment to the Constitution of <quote>the right of the people peaceably to assemble</quote>; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="H827C95A13C2345A794C41B6FF24BAC70"><enum>(5)</enum><text>stands firm in its belief in a democracy in which all can participate and in which intimidation and threats of violence cannot silence the voice of any American.</text></paragraph></section></resolution-body></resolution>
