R. 6184</legis-num><current-chamber>IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES</current-chamber><action display="yes"><action-date date="20251120">November 20, 2025</action-date><action-desc><sponsor name-id="E000301">Ms. Elfreth</sponsor> (for herself, <cosponsor name-id="B001323">Mr. Begich</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="B001278">Ms. Bonamici</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="B001285">Ms. Brownley</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="C001066">Ms. Castor of Florida</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="D000631">Ms. Dean of Pennsylvania</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="K000399">Mrs. Kiggans of Virginia</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="N000147">Ms. Norton</cosponsor>, <cosponsor name-id="M001223">Mr. Magaziner</cosponsor>, and <cosponsor name-id="W000830">Mr. Whitesides</cosponsor>) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the <committee-name committee-id="HII00">Committee on Natural Resources</committee-name>, and in addition to the Committee on <committee-name committee-id="HSY00">Science, Space, and Technology</committee-name>, for a period to be subsequently determined by the Speaker, in each case for consideration of such provisions as fall within the jurisdiction of the committee concerned</action-desc></action><legis-type>A BILL</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To ensure the uninterrupted storage of data sets of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and for other purposes.</official-title></form><legis-body id="H5989584DDD7A4868841F7E152C371322" style="OLC"><section id="H2C255D5ECE0F44878B4566D621401706" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may cited as the <quote><short-title>NOAA Data Preservation Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="HCCBCB4341F994B7AB9B3930D6A42A1C3"><enum>2.</enum><header>Uninterrupted storage of data sets of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration</header><subsection id="HD6656CBF6E57476A8DA2E8FBD51069CF"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Secretary of Commerce may not cancel a contract with a cloud service provider for the storage of a data set of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration unless the Secretary satisfies the conditions described in subsection (b).</text></subsection><subsection id="H3647B277E21148E48C4F3A57587F5289"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Conditions described</header><text>The conditions described in this subsection are the following:</text><paragraph id="HED05AB4679344D12AA1791B509D60B46"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Development of a plan for the uninterrupted storage of the data set described in subsection (a) that includes transition to a cloud service provider other than a cloud service provider referred to in such subsection of such data set, and any associated reporting systems.</text></paragraph><paragraph id="HCB9E4F91D1CE4E2B90948A0A8C111EBA"><enum>(2)</enum><text>Collaboration with the Administrator of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to ensure the uninterrupted protection of such data set.</text></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="H69C9953A31E2453F9516F1CBD9EBFB37"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Cloud service provider defined</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">In this section, the term <quote>cloud service provider</quote> has the meaning given the term in section 2200 of the Homeland Security Act of 2002 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/6/650">6 U.S.C. 650</external-xref>).</text></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
