<official-title display="yes">To amend the Labor-Management Reporting and Disclosure Act of 1959 to remove the requirement that members of a union exhaust internal reasonable hearing procedures prior to bringing certain legal or administrative proceedings.</official-title>

<section id="HC1563D35C30847E9951715C8C3864B7F" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Fair Access to Justice for Union Members Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section> <section id="HC789C1E6AC9447F1ADC24D7D0E1603FB"><enum>2.</enum><header>Removal of exhaustion requirements</header> <subsection id="HCCE3A1FD4C584640BD139F35979E0281"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 101(a)(4) of the Labor-Management Reporting and Disclosure Act of 1959 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/29/411">29 U.S.C. 411(a)(4)</external-xref>) is amended by striking <quote>That any such member may be required to exhaust reasonable hearing procedures (but not to exceed a four-month lapse of time) within such organization, before instituting legal or administrative proceedings against such organizations or any officer thereof:<italic> And provided further,</italic></quote>.</text></subsection> 
<subsection id="HE562B7E797914CC9A65BE18630DC193C"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Effective date</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The amendment made by this Act shall take effect on the date that is 18 months after the date of enactment of this Act.</text></subsection> </section> </legis-body> </bill>
