<section id="HDC3465DC515E4A25A22BAAF9053C69E2" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as <quote><short-title>Katie Meyer’s Law</short-title></quote>.</text></section> <section id="H6A2F258BF0F94A1E80F6CB09D9C0C53E" section-type="subsequent-section"><enum>2.</enum><header>Policy relating to advisers for certain students</header> <subsection id="HCCFFB842BCE64F84A42BE3D271B4C44E"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Adviser requirement</header> <paragraph id="H6C1B5C83534249EEB5C37EC6B11DB726"><enum>(1)</enum><header>In general</header><text>In order to be eligible to receive funds under an applicable program, an institution of higher education shall adopt a policy relating to the provision of student advisers in accordance with paragraph (2).</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="H5DCFA4412835402AA92E9E07F433A1A1"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Policy required</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The policy required under paragraph (1) shall include the following:</text> <subparagraph id="H6A4383D78ECC4B6EB05B8D4BA4AF8AC1"><enum>(A)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">In the case of a student who attends an institution of higher education and who receives notification of an alleged violation by such student of the code of conduct of such institution, such institution shall provide such student with the option to be assisted by an adviser in accordance with clauses (ii) and (iii) of subparagraph (D).</text></subparagraph> 
<subparagraph id="HCE457A7F42C74E60BFC3558351DD089B"><enum>(B)</enum><header>Notification</header><text>The notification described in subparagraph (A) shall include information with respect to the option of the student to—</text> <clause id="H5ACD4B6C991B4538AB6F89C8EFFF722C" commented="no"><enum>(i)</enum><text>select an outside adviser; or</text></clause> 
<clause id="HE5C89C53ECEB431E9055C326551EFA87"><enum>(ii)</enum><text>request that the institution of higher education provide an independent adviser.</text></clause></subparagraph> <subparagraph id="HDAF18007AC5743A0A618AD31749ED6FD"><enum>(C)</enum><header>Provision of adviser</header><text>An institution may provide an independent adviser to a student through—</text> 
<clause id="H7AD43EF4AE1D4002835F06C106AD8588"><enum>(i)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">a confidential respondent services coordinator;</text></clause> <clause id="H5F5340C0D84245FDAE37DD9C0BE9C1AC"><enum>(ii)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">an agreement with a student-based peer support program; and</text></clause> 
<clause id="H3C42018F57454609AFC91BDEFFDE8294"><enum>(iii)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">an agreement with an alumni-based support program.</text> </clause></subparagraph> <subparagraph id="HCBF068999FF649C2B6607F4CD0079060"><enum>(D)</enum><header>Requirements</header><text>An outside adviser selected by a student pursuant to clause (i) of subparagraph (B) or an independent adviser provided to a student pursuant to clause (ii) of such subparagraph, as applicable, shall—</text> 
<clause id="H6080FF6E8E4E4D479B362169F407FE2D"><enum>(i)</enum><text>be trained by such institution on the adjudication procedures of such institution relating to the alleged violation;</text></clause> <clause id="HB27C50CDB63E4E1792DB7BC35B9278D0"><enum>(ii)</enum><text>with written permission from the student, receive bi-weekly updates throughout the adjudication process; and</text></clause> 
<clause id="H548669EA1C134CEDB79D843DE01D6536"><enum>(iii)</enum><text>participate in the adjudication process—</text> <subclause id="H61327525E3DD42578DE05BFE8C83D714"><enum>(I)</enum><text>as an advocate for the student; or</text></subclause> 
<subclause id="HDD44E89E01BA43B89F4642C963376CA6"><enum>(II)</enum><text>as authorized by applicable State law and title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/20/1681">20 U.S.C. 1681 et seq.</external-xref>).</text></subclause></clause></subparagraph></paragraph> <paragraph id="H66A8AA423C2047268B00DA1909F0B542"><enum>(3)</enum><header>Definitions</header><text>In this subsection:</text> 
<subparagraph id="H67104DB405A14B40B981D7D3A0404992"><enum>(A)</enum><header>Applicable program</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The term <term>applicable program</term> has the meaning given such term in section 400(c) of the General Education Provisions Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/20/1221">20 U.S.C. 1221(c)</external-xref>).</text></subparagraph> <subparagraph id="H7E33964879F54FC6BBFB5586B109743F"><enum>(B)</enum><header>Institution of higher education</header><text>The term <term>institution of higher education</term> has the meaning given such term in section 101 of the Higher Education Act of 1965 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/20/1001">20 U.S.C. 1001</external-xref>).</text></subparagraph></paragraph></subsection> 
<subsection id="HB7FF422539B4497CA625D11C2B2308AF"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Disclosure of campus security policy and campus crime statistics</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 485(f)(1)(F) of the Higher Education Act of 1965 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/20/1092">20 U.S.C. 1092(g)</external-xref>) is amended—</text> <paragraph id="H2BE8C06C378B49ABBA37172C433DE0F1"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in clause (iii), by striking <quote>and</quote> at the end;</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="H8BA7605227224C79A14983CB2F0BAC54"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in clause (iv), by striking the period at the end and inserting <quote>; and</quote>; and</text></paragraph> <paragraph id="HF8D1952860B64534BDBFF675BC4676D0"><enum>(3)</enum><text>by adding at the end the following:</text>

<clause id="H17556E056C4943AB9C8FF90BD58BE6FD"><enum>(v)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">incidents of suicide that were reported to campus security authorities or local police agencies.</text></clause><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block> </paragraph></subsection></section> </legis-body></bill>
