<section id="H363C6008114F4ECD87F28962E1B3E299" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Enhancing COPS Hiring Program Grants for Local Law Enforcement Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section> <section id="H86BD95AD6350406881BCD8F620748294"><enum>2.</enum><header>Use of public safety and community policing grants</header> <subsection id="H2A27316A1E744A8097860AE1F3D1C13C"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Uses of grants</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 1701(b) of the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/34/10381">34 U.S.C. 10381(b)</external-xref>) is amended—</text> 
<paragraph id="H7C9EDFD3E6F747B881ED30267B01BBD2"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in paragraph (23), by striking <quote>; and</quote> and inserting the semicolon at the end;</text></paragraph> <paragraph id="HF2A8E212EF0C4AA5BF88CE475D2BE042"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in paragraph (24), by striking the period at the end and inserting <quote>; and</quote>; and</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="HBE9E270D49464DECAAC48DFF647EA122"><enum>(3)</enum><text>by adding at the end the following:</text> <quoted-block style="OLC" id="H6CE7D3DB03D94504BB4D71F04C492848" display-inline="no-display-inline"> <paragraph id="H3AC6F449DC7E479BB3FAEAA52BD8D8BB"><enum>(25)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">to provide bonuses for the recruitment and retention of law enforcement officers or career law enforcement officers employed by a law enforcement agency experiencing a decline in recruitment of officers or a high rate of retirements or resignations. </text></paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph></subsection> 
<subsection id="H2C03B82F38FF46F7A5BF71E6D848973E"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Definitions</header><text>Section 1709 of the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/34/10389">34 U.S.C. 10389</external-xref>) is amended by adding at the end the following:</text> <quoted-block style="OLC" id="H9C42FEF4F8744271A56FBA29E6FFE15C" display-inline="no-display-inline"> <paragraph id="H6FD9A0BECCC0458EB3890A642E99BF8B"><enum>(8)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline"><quote>law enforcement officer</quote> shall have the meaning given such term in section 1204(9).</text></paragraph> <after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></subsection></section>
