<section id="HD441D24460B44C5381CEFA6CBC2FA9BD" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Safe Temperature Act of 2025</short-title></quote>.</text></section> <section id="H3B2B41CD51394AD89FBD1044C24ACF99" section-type="subsequent-section"><enum>2.</enum><header>Comfortable and safe temperature level in Federally assisted housing</header> <subsection id="H4195D8F24D9E42AA9FDF35F9E396C77C"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Public housing and project-Based assistance</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The United States Housing Act of 1937 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/1437">42 U.S.C. 1437 et seq.</external-xref>) is amended—</text>
<paragraph id="H19D57D695D0D40D7BD2D5B3AE7DF9338"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in section 8(o)(13) (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/1437f">42 U.S.C. 1437f(o)(13)</external-xref>), by adding at the end the following:</text> <quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HB149B83566414931999E676191FE3C10" style="OLC"> <subparagraph id="H6F07AD9E6BDD4C0E94A6D2343DDAAC03"><enum>(P)</enum><header>Maintaining temperature level in units</header><text>The Secretary may require the owner of a dwelling unit receiving assistance under a housing assistance payment under this paragraph to ensure that the dwelling unit maintains a comfortable and safe temperature level ranging from 71 degrees to 81 degrees Fahrenheit.</text></subparagraph><after-quoted-block>; and</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph>
<paragraph id="H29AD6ADAC0BB4E00AA5C662FA40E9F9E"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in section 9 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/1437g">42 U.S.C. 1437g</external-xref>), by adding at the end the following:</text> <quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H46121EA6917F481A9EB6910D0F3DE573" style="OLC"> <subsection id="H00E7F39C090947CB9C4CF2324B610126"><enum>(p)</enum><header>Use of funds To maintain temperate level in units</header><text>With respect to a public housing dwelling unit, the Secretary may use amounts in the Capital Fund or the Operating Fund to ensure that the dwelling unit maintains a comfortable and safe temperature level ranging from 71 degrees to 81 degrees Fahrenheit.</text></subsection><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph></subsection>
<subsection id="HD775D338544747EBA0F9B6BCF913675C"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Supportive housing for the elderly</header><text>Section 202 of the Housing Act of 1959 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/12/1701q">12 U.S.C. 1701q</external-xref>) is amended by striking the last two subsections (each designated as subsection (m)) and inserting the following:</text> <quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H833AF6D974A14E25B04216E0C4958990" style="OLC"> <subsection id="H30AED4D813564FC78930D50D96151EA4"><enum>(m)</enum><header>Maintaining temperature in units</header><text>The Secretary may require the owner of housing assisted under this section to ensure that each unit in that housing maintains a comfortable and safe temperature level ranging from 71 degrees to 81 degrees Fahrenheit.</text></subsection><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></subsection></section>
